About Bee Heard

Bee Heard is a mental health charity based in Coleraine, Northern Ireland that offers support to adults with mental health problems

Bee Heard Description

Bee Heard was founded in 2014, opening our doors on the 18th of November 2014. We were set up and trained through Mind Yourself, Foyle Advocates.

We have been open since then two days a week although recently we have increased this to three days. Our service is on a drop in, free and confidential basis. We have tried to grow steadily, offering a safe place for people to talk about their mental health.

We are committed to breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness through being open about our own experience and using it to relate to those who use our services.

We are a registered charity who gets by mainly due to the support of the public through various fundraising events.

All Volunteers and Committee Members have personal experience of Mental Illness and use this to connect with people and be able to empathize with people.

We have also started a creative arts group entitled Bee Creative which aims to give people a place where people can express their thoughts and emotions in a safe environment.

The Bann Wheelers Cycle Sportive 2019 is today and Bee Heard was generously selected as one of the beneficiaries for this event, which will help us to continue to provide mental health support in the local area.
Braving the miserable conditions, cyclists set off this morning from Coleraine Rugby Club on 40 and 63 mile trips and a representative from Bee Heard was there to see them off.
We'd like to thank everyone involved with the charity sportive and hope everyone had a safe cycle!

Over the weekend, we passed 1000 Facebook likes! 😃
We’d like to thank everyone who has liked, commented on and shared our posts, which helps them reach as big an audience as possible.
When Bee Heard was founded, one of our key goals was to contribute to breaking the stigma around mental health and this page is a powerful tool to help achieve this.

Bee Heard was honoured to receive a candle from the Zachary Geddis Break the Silence Trust, following Terry Geddis's completion of his epic cycling journey.
Over 11 days, Terry lit up 117 towns around Northern Ireland in memory of all those who have lost their lives to suicide, been bereaved by suicide and/or suffer from mental illness.
... Well done, Terry!

Are you interested in meeting new people or gaining new life skills? Do you have a few spare hours or more each week? If so, Bee Heard would love to hear from you!
We’re looking for volunteers from all walks of life to help with a range of activities and we have a range of flexible volunteering opportunities available.
Our primary volunteering time is at our offices from Tuesday, to Thursday, 11am to 4pm, but we also have volunteering opportunities outside of these times, i...ncluding for fundraising events and Bee Active, our physical activity group.
Volunteering Roles - Listening ear and publicity: We’re looking for people who’d be interested in our listening ear service, for which full in-house training is provided, and assistance with publicity, such as promoting Bee Heard in the local area and attending events.
- Fundraising: We’re keen to add a number of people to our pool of fundraising volunteers. These volunteers would be contacted on an event by event basis, with no obligation to volunteer at every event.
- Bee Active: If you’d be interested in assisting with group walks or other activities, this is the role for you. As with the fundraising, this is more infrequent than the office volunteering.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and volunteering is subject to an enhanced AccessNI check.
