About Belfast Marrow

Students at Queen's University Belfast, passionate about signing people up to the Anthony Nolan stem cell register to help save the lives of people with blood cancer.

Belfast Marrow Description

Give a Spit, Save a Life.

We’re Belfast Marrow, the QUB student group that aims to save lives from leukaemia and severe blood disorders.

We work alongside Anthony Nolan to help recruit people to the register, which links potential donors with people who desperately need a stem cell transplant. We’re represented in universities across the whole of the UK and in four other countries, but we still need to grow and expand. With more supporters like you, we can help to save more lives.

What do we do?
We organise recruitment events to get more people on the register and fundraise for Anthony Nolan. We also give students the opportunity to get involved and volunteer for us, whether you would like to help out at clinics recruiting new potential donors, want to help us spread the word or want to get involved in fundraising. Like our page or drop us a message to find out how you can get involved.

The Marrow story so far…
The first Marrow group started was formed in 1998. The project was initially set up by James Custow and group of student doctors from the University of Nottingham following the death of a friend from leukaemia. Since then we’ve gone from strength to strength. Our work has been recognised by the World Health Organisation’s Federation for Medical Students, with Marrow taking first place awards for the last two years. Last year Marrow was responsible for signing up 25% of the people who signed up as potential donors to the bone marrow register at an event!

Incredible work at Ulster University! In their first year as a society, they've signed up over 1000 potential lifesavers 😮 A huge well done to all involved! Ulster University Marrow are still looking for committee members for the next academic year, and students in any yeargroup or course across all 4 UU campuses are very welcome to join - no experience needed. Just email ulster@ukmarrow.org or message their fb page for more info.

Are you an Ulster University student, or do you know someone who is?
Ulster University Marrow are a brand new student-led branch of the blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan. They are looking for students from any yeargroup or course, across any of the UU campuses, to help lead the group as part of the committee.
Marrow groups run donor recruitment events to sign potential lifesavers up to the stem cell register, and also fundraise and raise awareness. It's an incredible opport...unity to make a real difference to people's lives. It's also a fantastic way to meet people and develop new skills to really enhance your university experience.
You can gain experience of working within a team, organising events, managing finances, designing publicity materials, and advertising the group's activities. You can help run events across the campuses, in sports clubs, schools, community centres and at public events. And you won't be doing it alone :) You'll be part of a wider network of 60 Marrow groups across UK universities, and will have lots of support from Anthony Nolan and from ourselves at Belfast Marrow.
Interested? Ulster University Marrow would *love* to hear from you 😊 To find out more, send them a private message or email ulster@ukmarrow.org
