Melanoma is a serious type of skin cancer, which is actually increasing in people under the age of 40.
There can be various causes, but the most common would be harmful and prolonged exposure to UV radiation from the sun or tanning beds.
The first melanoma signs and symptoms often are:... - A change in an existing mole - The development of a new pigmented or unusual-looking growth on your skin
If you spot this and you would like to get an expert opinion, then contact us to book an appointment, https://belfastskinclinic.com/dermato…/ skin-cancer/melanoma/

Sometimes moles can change. If you notice a change no matter how subtle, it's better to get it checked out.
Our full body mole scanner, which is the only one in Northern Ireland, can look at deeper structures in the skin to detect early skin cancers before they become visible with the naked eye.
For any moles that pose a problem or if you want to have them taken away for cosmetic reasons, we can remove them, with minimal scarring.
... To speak to a specialist call 028 9066 7077 or book an appointment online: https://belfastskinclinic.com/…/skin-ca ncer-…/mole-scanning/

Skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer, but also one of the most preventable.
The vast majority of skin cancer cases are due to excess sun exposure and harmful UVA radiation.
We understand the importance of taking care of your skin, which is why we offer skin cancer screening.
... 1. If you're worried, get it checked out - have there been any recent changes in your skin?
2. Have new moles appeared or are existing moles getting bigger or changed colour?
We have Northern Ireland's only private full body mole scanner which allows us to digitally map all your moles and review them every 6 months for changes. Find out more or book an appointment with one of our specialists, https://belfastskinclinic.com/dermat…/s kin-cancer-screening/

*SUN AWARENESS WEEK* Both UVA and UVB rays penetrate the atmosphere and are the main contributory factor in developing conditions such as premature skin aging, eye damage (including cataracts), and skin cancers. While UVA penetrates deep into the skin’s dermis and has been known to play a major part in skin ageing and wrinkling, UVB affects the skin’s superficial epidermal layers and is responsible for the majority of sunburn and damage to the skin’s surface, playing a key role in the development of skin cancer. Recognising the importance of protecting against both will help inform your decisions about sun protection and help to keep both you and your family safe this summer season. For more information on skin protection or to book an appointment to have your skin assessed, please call our team today on 02890667077

*SUN AWARENESS WEEK* Just as sunscreen keeps the sun's UV rays from harming your skin, UV protection in glasses block those same rays from damaging your eyes. Research suggests that 5-10% of skin cancers occur on the eyelid. When choosing sunglasses look for quality indicators such as ‘CE Mark’ UV 400 label or 100% UV Protection written on the label. For more information on sun protection or to book for a skin assessment, call our team today on 02890667077

*SUN AWARENESS WEEK* Sun Protection Factor is not an amount of protection per se. Rather, it indicates how long it will take for UVB rays to redden skin when using a sunscreen, compared to how long skin would take to redden without the product. For instance, someone using a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 will take 30 times longer to redden than without the sunscreen. When choosing a sunscreen, you should ensure it is broad spectrum and protects you from both UVA and UVB radiation. You should follow the guide amounts below and ensure sunscreen is applied at least 30 mins before going into the sun and every 2hours thereafter.
