Today marks the 65th Anniversary of the official opening of Casement Park in Belfast. In 1953 an urn of soil was taken from Thurles, the birthplace of the GAA, and deposited on Casement’s newly opened ground. Pictured from L-R are Sean McGettigan (Chairman Fund Com.), Paddy O' Keefe (Gen. Sec. GAA), Cardinal O' Alton, Seamus McFerran (Chairman Antrim Co. Board), Dr. Mageean (Bishop Down and Connor), Fr. Petit (Chairman Ulster Council). Casement's place in the GAA is long-standing and the newly redeveloped stadium, currently in planning, will ensure its place is maintained into a new era for Ulster GAA. A busy weekend as the qualifiers begin for Derry GAA Tyrone GAA Official Antrim GAA Cavan County Board and Armagh GAA. Four of the five Ulster teams are away from home with only Derry playing host to Kildare. The very best to all counties as they build momentum for the Summer.
A momentous occasion for Fermanagh GAA as they reach their first Ulster GAA final in a decade. The atmosphere in a newly redeveloped Casement Park, with its 360 degree roof, will create the perfect provincial stadium for further memorable days.
Attention shifts towards the Ulster Championship over the next few weeks. A redeveloped Casement Park will act as a central hub for the lifting of the provincial trophy, the Anglo Celt Cup, in the heart of the provincial capital, Belfast.

The incredible story of Slaughtneil GAC continued on Saturday with a classy and dominant display to retain their All-Ireland Senior Camogie crown: 2-11 to 1-09 over Sarsfield’s of Galway. A fantastic achievement from the Derry Girls and all involved! Comhghairdeas!
