The City of Derry Thursday Society held their annual competition for the Joe Ramsey Trophy last week and Society Secretary Eamon McCourt (08) took the top honours by scoring 31 points on a very mild, still day. Only a break-of-tie could separate the next four places, John O’Doherty (09) took second place, Terry Empey (16) came third, Gerry Gormley (11) came fourth and Clive Brolly (09). All four players finishing with 29 points

RECENT RESULTS
Thursday Society 30th Jan 2020
There is a time in every golfers’ life when everything works as planned. The drive goes straight down the middle; that chip works perfectly; the putt drops in the hole and for Pat Logue (16) it happened last Thursday. Pat must have been thinking of ‘Salad Days’ as he took first place, and the Veteran’s prize, with 22 points. The next three places had to be decided on a break-of-tie. Ron Grieve (07) , Eamon McCourt (06) and Ala...n Simpson (05) all finished on 20 points.

Saturday started wet and blustery, however there was a good turnout. Adrian Johnston (14) returned 32 points to beat Les Dixon (05) on a break-of-tie despite Les scoring a hole-in-one at the tricky 12th hole. In third place with 30 points was John Chambers (06). Club Secretary Clive Brolly (09) took the seniors’ prize with 28 points

Another blustery day with heavy showers didn’t deter Enda McDermott (14) scoring 31 points to take first place last Sunday. Liam McCafferty (16) came second all on his own with 30 points and there was quite a few fighting for the last two places all finishing with 29 points. The best of there were Ciaran Grant (16) and Malachy Armstrong (16)

What can only be described as horrendous conditions with heavy rain and strong winds was the order of the day in this weeks Thursday Society. However Ralph Hamilton scored an impressive 31 points to oust Les Dickson on 30 points to be this weeks victor. Third was John Monaghan with Kevin Barrett taking 4th spot.

It seems inevitable that Thursday Society Secretary Eamon McCourt (08) is destined to run away with the accolades this season as he (again) topped the scoring at City of Derry last week. Eamon returned 31 points beating three other golfers on 29 points. Richard Hamilton (07) was the best of the trio, on break-of-tie. Club Secretary Clive Brolly (09) was third and Thomas McClintock came in fourth.
