Claire Briggs Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic Description

Experience
I qualified over 10 years ago from the University of Ulster, Jordanstown and I have always had a keen interest in outpatient and sports physiotherapy. During my physiotherapy studies at Jordanstown I provided sports massage to athletes at the Sports Institute Northern Ireland (SINI) and this led to my selection as one of nine physiotherapy students to attend the British University Games (BUGS) in Edinburgh in the spring of 2003. Following this I was chosen as one of two physiotherapy students from the UK and Ireland to provide physiotherapy services to the GB & NI delegation at the World University Games (WUGs) in South Korea in August 2003. On return from the games I commenced employment in the NHS working in Whiteabbey and Altnagelvin hospitals before moving to Musgrave Park Hospital to consolidate my rehabilitation skills.
I have worked in an outpatient setting within the NHS and in private practice and in the last few years privately from my own home. Although at present I work as a musculoskeletal specialist physiotherapist within the NHS I have also gained vast experience working with clients with spinal cord injuries, neurological disorders, amputees and clients with learning disabilities.
In 2008 I was nominated and awarded the honour of Regional volunteer of the year from the UK National charity Disability Sports Events for my work in the promotion and development of sport for people with physical and /or learning disabilities.
I developed my sports physiotherapy skills working at a variety of multi-sport events over the years including at the:
• 2003 British University Games
• 2003, 2005 & 2007 World University Games
• 2006 UK School Games
• 2008, 2009 & 2010 4 Nations pan disability badminton championships
• 2009 World Dwarf Games
• 2008 UK Amputee Games
