ECLECTIC LEAGUE OFF TO A FROSTY START
The very popular 12-hole Eclectic League got off to a frosty start with play being delayed on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Indeed, it was a 12-hole shotgun start on Sunday morning. There was a terrific turnout in the cold weather and the scoring proved very good under the conditions. It was Colin McParland (7) who is the first-round leader following a level par round which gave him a net 38. Colin need his perfect par round to gain the lead as Shane Grant (12) back in the fold after years of absence rearing a young family showed that class is permanent with a net 39. Shane Muckian (13) lies in third spot with a net 41 a shot clear of the next trio of Stephen Markey (6), Justin Byrne (7) and Niall McEneaney (13). Round two of the 6-week competition begins on Monday Jan 20.

SHANE & GRAHAM WIN THE FOURBALL
... A lovely mild Sunday morning for the fourball better ball following a wet and windy Saturday made for a full timesheet and very keen competition over the 12 holes. Visiting the winner’s enclosure for the second week in succession was Graham Johnston who following his stroke play win last week teamed up with Shane Muckian to dovetail superbly for a whopping 39-point winning score. Runners-up were Silverbridge duo Christopher Reel and injury recovered Ruairi Murchan who shot 37 points. It was a case of the son -in -law getting the better of the father-in-law in the countback to see who finished in third place after both pairings returned 36 points. It was Paddy Malone with his playing partner Ed Hughes who beat Brendan Hughes and the Vice-Captain Noel Magill the dreaded father-in-law for the last podium place ahead of a dozen teams who all had 34 points.
