Tuesday top tip to save time and money removing mill scale from steel! Tesco own brand vinegar will lift it off! Always see the American guys on YouTube using vinegar to do this but turns out there's a few different types but Tesco stuff definitely works. Quick repair job needed this morning on one of the heat stamps as the threads gave up on us during use. Upgraded the m6 single thread to a solid steel backing plate to attach the brass plate and a 12mm solid steel bar as a new handle. Should take a lot more abuse now
I won't show the tig weld on the back though, ended up getting carried away with the filler rod building up the joint. It's no Instagram pipe weave that's for sure! 😂💩🙈 .... . . . . . . Restoration job just completed on these two old Stanley Bailey planes, one of which is from the USA surprisingly. A number 7 and a number 5, both were heavily rusted and had been sitting for quite some time but unfortunately don't have any before pictures. Both were repainted, after stripping and cleaning. Shellac was used for the number 5 handles and boiled linseed oil on the 7. Christmas items are always fun to make. This was a completely bespoke fence made to toddler proof a christmas tree. All solid wood construction with no ply or mdf used and all parts made from scratch. A fully modular design, which allows sections to be added or removed as needed. I'll admit I'm very pleased with the finished piece. Might have to make one for myself now! America are way ahead of us when it comes to dust collection and enforcing it on site or on jobs. I always try to use the best dust collection possible so I got one of these @dewalttoolsuk dust shrouds for an angle grinder, for removing old tile adhesive to prep the walls for the new ones. I've never seen anyone else use one of these in the UK. It's meant to virtually eliminate dust when connected to a vacuum.
