Dundrum cricket club might have had a poor season with both teams getting relegated but its far from doom and gloom as plans already underway for seniors and junior tours to England after a very successful junior three day tour to Scotland .The club select will travel to Telford over Easter for at least three days playing three or four fixtures as part of the pre season with the u-16 junior tour either going to Telford or Dumfries dates to be confirmed . Dundrum hav...e ran five tours in six years quite a feat for the small but proactive proud village club and no other club in the union goes on tour so credit to this superb effort from the coaches . The first team captain is Ian Wright with Dave Williams in charge of the second eleven with James Martin captaining the firsts in both the junior cup and T20 shield and good see him fit again as very talented all rounder .The village club has not let poor performances from the push to upgrade the ground and spent over 9000£ on upgrading the pitch and equipment with new covers and the artificial now moved alongside the square which has been great success since turned around .The hard working committee have set target of three new projects two that will hopefully be completed by the start of the season with new gated entrance to the ground which will make it safer . The most exciting projects are the new electronic scorebox and plans for grant aided two bay fully enclosed practice area which will be fantastic safe area for kids and coaches to run sessions and the club is fully committed to improve all aspects of what is a unique cricket meadow .The club is indebted to the unpaid groundsman Tommy Curlett over 50 years maintaining the ground and with excellent help from Jack Curlett and Stephen Calvert the meadow seen lots runs scored last season with Monaghan proving the point with 298 runs in only 40 overs on a batsman friendly square .Anyone wishing to join the club will be made welcome and its hoped the ladies team can be playing fixtures in the summer with u/11/13/15 teams all entered in league and cups and anyone looking information on playing or many sponsorship offers can contact Jeff Maguire 07730334479/02843751442 or on Facebook or club website www.dundrumcc.btck.co.uk . The club has been running cricket at boys brigade nights and Shimna integrated college and will be going to new schools this year with finals day in the effort to promote the club and the game of cricket so rollon spring and another summer like like 2018 and happy xmas and 2019 to all our valued sponsors and supporters .

The club will pay to get anyone welcome to coaching course or any first aid courses etc and lots of simple opportunities to be active in club for ladies and men . Committee meetings last 75 minutes just once a month and always looking new voices and ideas on improving the club and help with fund ra...ising . The usual fund raisers golf classic quiz and draw are all set for next year dates to be confirmed and the seniors are planning to go to Telford over Easter for 3 day tour playing at least 3 games as warm up for the season . All new members boys girls and age are welcome at the meadow as the club continue rebuilding with some very talented young all rounders . The work going on at the club is tremendous with very hard working volunteers as they are removing the artificial to realign it with the square which has proved a big success with the extended boundaries making the ground look a lot bigger than most understand . The club is looking for places to host winter indoor sessions for all age groups and details to be announced so feel free to contact Jeff Maguire or leave message on anything cricket. ROLL ON SPRING

Plans in place for the Dundrum Seniors to go on tour to Telford next Easter for 3 days

User

Dundrum cricket club season was struggle from start to finish with both teams getting relegated but its far from doom and gloom as already part of the plans for next season is for Seniors to go on 3 day tour to Telford over Easter . The club is rebuilding from there youth set up and even tho the firsts only won four games in all formats it was good to see a very young opening new ball partnership . Stuart Campbell opened the bowling all year which definitely helped... him win all rounder of the year and Rhodri Philips at 14 is the second youngest since Lee Connor the best new ball bowler in the last 25 years got lots chances and he will be even better next year after picking up the u13/15 player of the year . .Dundrum no it will take at least five years to rebuild but they also have the best young leg spinner in the Northern cricket union Tom Crudgington who was u13 bowler of the year and was only beat in seconds by his father and both Tom and Rhodri are off to winter training with Ncu which will improve both players. The seconds captain Gordon Lowey was player of the year but the fact he got teams out for all fifteen fixtures was excellent as lots clubs picked up fines as a lot sports are now overlapping making all sports struggle . The juniors had excellent help from coaches in u-11 Uel Dougherty u-13 Dave Crudgington and u-15 Ken Mcnerlin who all combine work and family time but still ran superb fun and cricket sessions all summer and again massive thanks to Erin Busby who won Club person of the year who even with exams ran the minis with Kyle Johnston and Erin played in u-15 and seconds and went on tour with u15 and exceeded even the coaches expectations. The club will be running indoor training starting January for the juniors as well as pushing on with ladies training as need get the ladies team ready for soft ball friendlies next season and take the juniors to UK for 5th year out last six which is testament to promoting youth cricket . The club would like thank the many sponsors that contribute to running the fine village club and everyone who supports them thru fund raising so roll on spring and lets hope for another summer like last year anyone male or female any age looking to join or sponsor contact Jeff Maguire 02843751442 or on the clubs Facebook page .

U11s Lose Closely Fought Match
After last weeks away game the U11 team played a return match against Saintfield at the Meadow on Tuesday evening.
Batting first, again in a pairs format whereby 2 batters faced a total of 4 overs, with any wicket lost resulting in the deduction of 5 runs, Dundrum notched up a respectable team score of 63. Everyone contributed, with notable partnerships from Andrew Campbell and Thomas McCauley ... and James Wright and Freddie Tormey and some great hitting from Caleb Armstrong. It is good to see the U11s starting to value their wickets and thinking about calling and running. There was a noticeable improvement from last week.
When Saintfield batted, Dundrum bowled and fielded well. Andrew Campbell captain used his experience to ensure the better bowlers were held back to take on the more experienced Saintfield players. It was excellent to see most of the team volunteer to bowl and all of the team support the bowlers in the field. Matthew McCauley Caleb Armstrong, John Lenaghan , Emma Lowey , Thomas, James and Joscelyn Wright , Noah Spence and Andrew all bowled well. Andrew wisely marshalled the field and took a couple of good catches. Thomas, Caleb and John Nathan Forsythe and Emma Campbell showed real enthusiasm and improving skills in the field - Thomas McCauley almost taking a screamer at mid-wicket!
In the end Dundrum came a close second with Saintfield scoring 74 in their allotted overs.
At this stage the result doesn’t really matter. Dundrum showed enthusiasm, improving skills in all areas and and great team spirit it’s noticeable how well the team encourage and support one another. It’s early days in the U11 team’s cricketing careers but they are all improving. It’s a real pleasure to see how the team are now thinking about and enjoying the game of cricket. Long may that continue!
Finally, thanks to Terry Hutley for helping set up, umpiring, coaching and encouraging all. Much appreciated help from Johnny Briggs and Saintfield cc

Dundrum Outclassed by BISC
On Thursday night Dundrum 1st Eleven played BISC in the rearranged league match. Dundrum fielded one of their best teams of the year including the much missed 6 university lads all playing and were hoping to get their first league win of the year.
Captain Jack Woods won the toss and elected to bowl first. Scott Symington and Stuart Campbell opened the bowling for Dundrum. Dundrum started well with the ball, bowling with good line and length to res...trict BISC in the early overs. Symington got the opening wicket getting the dangerous A Rekhi caught by Woods. Campbell then in on the act having N Nagineni caught behind for a duck. After the first six overs BISC were 33 for 2 with Dundrum on top. However BISC got back into the game with Vinay Srinivasan and Britesh Krishali running well between the wicket to put the pressure back onto the Dundrum bowlers. Dundrum let BISC back into the game through a combination of poor bowling and allowing easy singles as at 66 for 5 of ten overs the villagers were on top . Adam Symington helped to slow the run rate in the middle overs bowling four overs for 21 runs picking up one wicket.as he simply bowled to his field by pitching it up BISC began to try and accelerate the run rate hitting a number of boundaries but Dundrum bowled well at the death to restrict them to 164 for 5 off their 20 overs. S Symington was the pick of the bowlers bowling four overs for just 14 runs and picked up two wickets. Dundrum just bowled a number of loose deliveries throughout to allow BISC back into the game as 8 overs of slow bowling leaked 86 runs with lots missed chances with Patrick Calvert the pick of the fielding with one spectacular catch
Dundrum knew they needed a good quick start in order to chase this score down. A Symington and S Campbell opened the batting but BISC bowled good to begin the innings, with a maiden being bowled in the first over. A Bhattacharya bowled 3 overs for just 8 runs picking up two wickets. Symington fell for a duck but Campbell and J Woods put on 40 for the next wicket but BISC allowed the run rate to remain high. Dundrum were behind and when both Campbell and Woods fell in quick succession Dundrum were in trouble. However Patrick Calvert came to the crease with intent hitting a quick fire 45, hitting 3 of the biggest sixes seen at the Meadow this year. However he was losing partners quickly and with the pressure on Calvert was bowled in the 17th over with Dundrum bowled out for 110. It was an improved team performance from Dundrum .

Jack Woods 111 runs and and 17 year old Stuart Campbell 106 runs put on record partnership and both never gave a chance
Dundrum travelled to Drumaness on Saturday for a local derby match looking to win first section two win game. Dundrum lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a soft wicket but in 80 overs it was a boundary and six fest as some cracking attacking shots from both teams .
Derek Bailey opened the batting with Stuart Campbell but lost Bailey getti...

Thinking of all our members and all students everywhere receiving their exam results tomorrow.
Just a remember that piece of paper will never define you, regardless of the numbers or letters on it. It’s just what you have done up to now.
There are many pathways to a career of your choosing. Some are direct, some take a detour, some take a wee bit longer. And when we do get to where we think we have reached our destination, sometimes we still make decisions on what to do next... and even where in the world to do it.
Well done and good luck in the future from Dundrum cricket club
