Dyslexia Tutor Description
Are you looking for extra support for your child? Do they have dyslexia /specific learning difficulties?
I offer support in literacy and numeracy, helping your child to learn new strategies which will help make learning easier and more accessible.
My qualifications are; BSc in Social Psychology and OCR Level 5 Diploma in Teaching Learners with Dyslexia /Specific Learning Difficulties. I have 5 years experience of working in a large Learning Support Department within a school setting, working with all ages of children and young people with a variety of learning needs on a one to one basis.
I provide one to one tutoring sessions, which consist of a variety of multi-sensory approaches. Using teaching methods such as:
- Toe by Toe (a specific individual reading programme)
- Crafts
- Games and technology, such as an iPad.
I believe it is important to provide a flexible approach to learning to ensure the child /young person fully engages in each lesson. Helping a child to focus is the first step to helping improve their learning.
I can provide revision skills sessions and differentiated revision materials, such as, mind maps, booklets etc for those children who struggle with revision techniques when the exam season begins.
By providing this specific support it will not only help your child achieve their full potential, but will help to develop their self-confidence, which is fundamental in achieving educational targets.
If you would like any more information or to informally discuss your child's learning needs, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you,
Laura

An article worth reading for those with dyslexia or those who work with dyslexic students.
For dyslexic children, typing is an invaluable skill. It greatly reduces the need for handwriting, which can be a disliked or challenging area for them. Typing also offers a different way in which they learn how to spell. This way spelling becomes a series of finger movements/patterns rather than a visual/verbal skill, which in turn can be a more effective way for dyslexic children to learn.
This link provides fun and engaging activities to help improve typing skills. (Activities currently do not work on the iPad - Adobe Flash Player Required)
