Hypnotherapy and Anxiety
Anxiety is a huge issue that we all face in some way or other in our lives. Whether we are dealing with anxiety ourselves or know and love someone who is anxious, we have all been touched by this.
There is a way through anxiety and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Hypnotherapy can be extremely helpful for anxiety, it is an incredibly useful tool for encouraging the relaxation response around the issues that cause stress and also in general.
... If you are interested in finding out whether hypnotherapy can help you with anxiety then get in touch and let’s have a chat about how I might be able to help you.
Either way, please, do not give up x

Busting Hypnotherapy Myths with Children!
So far, this one is my favourite.
This morning I gave a talk to my daughter’s primary school class about hypnotherapy.... It was an absolute joy to explain to a room full of 6 year olds that the magic of hypnotherapy lies not in an outdated notion of zombie trance, but the potential of their own imaginations to create anything they want!
Children have amazing imaginations and are so receptive to new and interesting ideas, most of the time they live in the flow state that adults crave. It was incredible to see their response to some of the imagination games we played together; arms stretched in the air and screams of ‘I can’t hold this (imaginary) bucket, it’s too heavy!’
I read yesterday that it’s a good idea to remind children that they are the boss of their own imagination and I loved that. It applies to us all, not just children. You are the boss of your own imagination!! Boss wisely.

Hypnotherapy Myth #2
This is the myth that Hypnotherapy/Hypnosis involves some form of sleep. It absolutely does not but this is made more confusing by the fact that many hypnotists/hypnotherapists repeat the word SLEEP to the client.
The picture below was taken 2 years ago and shows me in a full body catalepsy which I created in a few minutes of self hypnosis. It looks as though I’m in some kind of sleep however my mind, while incredibly still was also fully awake and absorb...ed in the experience of my body as a steel bar.
Often in hypnotherapy it is useful for the client to close their eyes so they can become absorbed and focused on the suggestions being given by the hypnotherapist. Closing the eyes generally makes it easier to block out distractions and focus the mind.
However, a while ago, I posted a video that involved me doing some street hypnosis. It showed a young man experiencing his foot stuck to the ground. His eyes were open and he was chatting to me throughout. This was just as much hypnosis as that which takes place in the therapy room. The young man’s mind had become focused and absorbed in the experience of his foot being stuck to the ground and this had happened with his eyes wide open.
Keep your eyes open and look out for where your mind may be stuck at the moment. This is the first step in creating change. Then, when you’re ready to change you can give yourself the option of doing this with your eyes open or your eyes closed, but always wide awake...

Hypnotherapy Myth #1
One of the common misconceptions about hypnotherapy, is that hypnotherapy is something that is done ‘to the client’.
Hypnotherapy is not done to the client. Hypnotherapy is something that the client partakes in, with interest and curiosity and the willingness to engage their imagination and focus.
... Hypnotherapy is a collaboration between the hypnotherapist and the client. Together they work towards the desired result, with the client stating the direction they are moving in and the hypnotherapist steering them towards it.
This means that the client remains the captain of their own ship. It also means they become involved and engaged in the process.
When this works well, it can be a very lovely thing indeed!

Your Brain on Pain
“Pain is an experience created in the brain, by the brain”.
This notion often goes against everything we’ve come to understand about pain. We usually grow up believing that pain is something outside us, something that happens to us. However, in the same way that the brain creates the experience of pain, it can also create pain relief and, even better, can become less habituated to creating pain generally.
... The fact that pain is a subjective experience, created in the brain, has a lot to do with why it is so responsive to hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy calms the nervous system and helps to change the emotional response to the pain signal and other related triggers within our environment. This can have an enormous impact on the way we experience pain.

If your mind can stick your foot to the ground, what else could it do? What might your mind be capable of doing if you just give it permission to change?
Inspiration for this foot stick from James Tripp and James Brown. Big thanks to Turan Mirza for recording this and to the guy in the clip who had such an open mind and great attitude!

HYPNOTHERAPY FOR PAIN RELIEF
Recently, I have been using hypnotherapy to help someone very close to me who has been living with a huge amount of physical pain for a long time. The results of this have been really wonderful. To see the change and the relief from pain that someone can have from a 45min hypnotherapy session is inspiring and also humbling.
As a result of this, I’ve decided to offer hypnotherapy for pain relief at NO CHARGE for the next few weeks. There are absolu...tely no strings attached to this, it is purely an act of helping people get relief from chronic pain with hypnotherapy. This offer only applies to hypnotherapy for pain relief as this area is my focus at the minute and when I reach a certain number of clients I will close this offer -purely due to time retraints. Hypnotherapy for any other issue will remain chargeable.
Hypnotherapy is very often a last resort for those of us who live with pain. First we go to the GP, then we go to the specialists. We go to the treatment centres and the pain clinics. We take the pills, all the pills, then we take the supplements. Some of us try complimentary healing treatments and then some of us find hypnotherapy.
Hypnotherapy is a safe and pleasant experience, which, if you are interested, you can read more about on my website. If you or anyone you know is living with chronic pain and you would like to experience hypnotherapy for pain relief with me at no charge for the next few weeks, you can send me a message though Facebook or email me through my website.
I look forward to working with some of you soon. Etain

The brilliant David Butler on the way we conceptualise pain and the importance of paying attention to metaphor. Two of my favourite subjects covered in one brief article.
