We aren't ones to read Mr McCausland's blog usually, but after this was brought to our attention I thought we should clear a few things up.
1/ It lacks imagination to think that a person cannot one day emotionally curse their being treated like a second class citizen and the next be able to adapt to reading to Children. Any Mother could attest to that.
2/ Never was the more risque part of Electra's name used around Children or to promote the event.
... 3/ The Library removed the post about the event as the amount of bile spouted by small minded keyboard critics was too much for them to police. They 100% stood behind us, never was the event in threat of not going ahead. The books they made a point of showing were both appropriate and a beautiful sentiment.
4/ I have no problem with the use of the word 'Queer' when used to subvert the dominant paradigm. It is a way for gay people to take back a once hate filled word. When used to empower, it is a fine word.
5/ The Artist did indeed create those posters. I can understand both why she deemed them necessary to print and why they may cause offence. I am not in the business of silencing a Gay Activist Artist who has obvious issues with DUP Policy. We are not delicate flowers. Sometimes we use strong words to get a point across succinctly.
6/ As to the implied boycott of my business.
BOYCOTT BOYCOTT BOYCOTT!!
I am sick of this climate of being scared of what our politicians say. Where they tell you to shop. What they tell you to think. What you can and can't do. If you truly think that three performers reading pre approved Children's books about love and acceptance is wrong, then I honestly don't want you in my shop. I would rather lose the business.
7/ To Electra. You are one of the most inspiring people that I have ever met. To have this weight of being a figure of dirision to so many small minded, hate filled people I cannot imagine how hard that is. You are brave. I know I would want my Children to grow up as brave as you. Do not be silenced by this.
8/ To Mr McCausland.
I invite you to come and speak to us at the Gallery. It would be truly wonderful to have some open and frank discourse rather than this tit for tat, he said she said, populist shenanigans. While we may not agree, blogs and facebook posts are not the way to do politics. Seeing the human face behind what you deem sinful and disgusting may be a start to change. Even once DUP ministers must have experienced love.
I am an optimist.

Visual artist Sally O〙Dowd creates often absurd and socially awkward performance. For this exhibition at Framewerk Gallery, Sally will produce and showcase two collections of photographs, and a piece of sculpture on the theme of motherhood.
The first is a series of photographs of her 2017 performance 〘Mothership〙, photographed by Carrie Lewis. The second is a new series of real event photographs documenting the artists new journey as mother and supplier, and the abject beau...ty and horror she finds in breastfeeding.
Sally O〙Dowd is an artist and curator with a socially engaged practice. Identity politics and queer theory are the backbone to the work, in which intimate female ritual, and women's roles - self selected and enforced - are investigated using performance, film and drawing. O〙Dowd creates often absurd, socially awkward performance, in which costumes and props amount to an abject beauty. She frequently works collaboratively in both her artistic and curatorial practices.
O〙Dowd is a studio member of Vault Artist Studios in east Belfast, and Director of Townhall Cavan Arts Space.
The exhibition will run until 29th Sept

At the vanguard of instrumental and experimental grime, Belfast producer Bloom and his productions have not so much ripped up the rulebook, as turned it into a 3D tesseract. with previous releases on london labels gobstopper, crazylegs and officially remixing the likes of BjûÑrk, he will be creating a sonic exploratory landscape of original production old & new.

User

Hey, had a great time at the comedy night, great craic and company, will definitely come backÿ¢§

User

Great art gallery and framers, with very friendly and inviting staff. A lovely size of room, I will be back soon. Convenient parking and public transport bus stops nearby.

User

Framewerk mainly appear to offer bespoke framing for art, prints or photographs. However it's also a tiny gallery space. During the 03/08/17 EastSide Art Bus Tour this was one of the smallest spaces we stopped at. There was an interesting exhibit on by Rachael Campbell-Palmer called Edgelands, which included plant installations and drawings. I'm not 100% sure about the meaning of this artwork but think it referred to city environments/ society and associated unkempt, overgrown areas - literally the edgelands, as per the exhibition title. I liked it immensely, especially the drawing. Framewerk also hold various events such as Flea Markets etc. A pretty cool, quirky, interesting little spot.

User

Excellent! A must visit place not only for art lovers and established artists but also for aspiring ones as Dawn offers great encouragement and support.

User

Dawn's framed a few things for me and all were brilliant.

User

Dawn really is brilliant - i left a few things in to get framed earlier in the week and couldn't be happier with them. Super fast service too! Will definitely be back again!

User
