PS. Regardless of how the media portrays our great charitable organisation, the Orange Order and its members do not hate our Roman Catholic neighbours. We disagree with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. That is all. There is a difference. ** Do us a favour and share this message **

68 years ago today Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne. Thank you for 68 years of service!
ŌĆ£I cannot lead you into battle, I do not give you laws or administer justice but I can do something else, I can give you my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the peoples of our brotherhood of nations.
ŌĆ£I believe in our qualities and in our strength, I believe that together we can set an example to the world which will encourage upright people everywhere....
ŌĆ£I would like to read you a few lines from 'Pilgrim's Progress', because I am sure we can say with Mr Valiant for Truth, these words:
"Though with great difficulty I am got hither, yet now I do not repent me of all the trouble I have been at to arrive where I am. My sword I give to him that shall succeed me in my pilgrimage and my courage and skill to him that can get it. My marks and scars I carry with me, to be a witness for me that I have fought his battles who now will be my rewarder."

#OnThisDay in 1689 a Convention Parliament was convened to determine if King James II had abandoned the thrones when he fled to France in 1688 when King William III and Queen Mary II had arrived.
They conclude that he had. In a radical departure for British tradition Parliament gave the crown to William and Mary as co-Monarchs thus establishing the supremacy of Parliament, the representatives of the people, over the Crown.
And in another radical departure King William and Qu...een Mary accepted the Crown on those terms.
Never again would a monarch dismiss Parliament in the way Charles I had done (leading to civil war), as Charles II had done or act outside the law as James II had done.
William and Mary brought to an end a century of struggle between Crown and people. The first monarchs to come to the British throne by surrendering many of the powers pervious kings and queens had taken for granted - and they did so while having thousands of Dutch troops at their backs and while in a position to demand whatever they wanted.
Small wonder King Billy is still held in Glorious Memory more than 300 years on!
