It was a busy day for our young players as we all battled through the wind and rain to get to Coleraine!!!! Thankfully the results were great! Division 1,2&3 were mixed for the first 2 rounds before being divided. Dominic kept up a winning streak to claim the top spot in Division 1 with brother Louis taking 3rd place. In Division 2 Marnie and Melissa battled it out finishing a fantastic 2nd and 3rd respectively.... In Division 4 - after playing 8 matches Eliza was delighted with 2nd place with Emma in 4th and Naomi in 5th. Well done to you all - super proud 😁πŸ’ͺπŸΌπŸ“πŸ†

This week saw Division 2 hit the β€œheadlines” again!! With their last match being played on Wednesday night they knew a draw would see them finish top of the league for the season. So off they went to Bangor determined to wrap it up. A mighty 7-3 win did just that - as although other teams still have matches to be played Glenburn cannot be caught on points! So well done to all who have played, coached and supported this team throughout the season πŸ“πŸ’ͺπŸΌπŸ†

So after a new year training camp in Italy, a tough week in Norway I’m now training again in Stockholm, tough life this game but I continue to strive to improve my play and hope to pick up a few better results in the Class 2 at the Ulster Closed in a couple of weeks time, my aim is to go one better than last year and finish in second position in my group πŸ’ͺπŸ“πŸ™

A brief round up from the Irish Nationals 2019
Women’s Singles With Rebecca, Laura, Erin and Nicole all competing in this event it was a busy Friday night with all playing in the group stages. With Nicole, Erin and Rebecca all getting through their groups they had to wait until Saturday for the next round. Rebecca got the furthest by reaching the semi final before losing out to Mia O’Rahilly Egan. That was the start of the medals for the club - claiming Bronze.... Laura, Rebecca, Lucy C and Lucy J all competed in the Women’s Doubles, but sadly no medals this time.
Men’s Singles Zak lived up to his number 3 seeding, reaching the semi final before losing narrowly to Owen Cathcart 11-8 in the 7th set. Another Bronze for the club - Zak went one better in the Men’s Doubles with Ryan Farrell, claiming Silver.
Restricted Singles James and Erin played the group stages of this on Friday night with James battling through to make it to the knock out stages on Saturday where he made his way to the final. There he met Rodney McKirgan who used all his experience to claim the win - congratulations to James picking up Silver.
Junior Girls Lucy C Lucy J and Nicole started bright and breezy on Sunday morning. wins and losses at the group stages (including a huge win for Lucy J against number 4 seed Thuy Linh Cashman) meant that all the girls went through their groups in 2nd place. This set up some very tough quarter finals - Lucy J lost out to Sophie Early, Nicole lost out to Mia O’Rahilly Egan however Lucy C went one step further. She put up excellent defence and keeping her focus against Zofia Wawrzyniak, Lucy won in straight sets. However it was to be another Bronze as Lucy C was defeated by Mia in the semi final. Junior Girls’ Doubles saw Lucy C and Lucy J put their Division 2 partnership to good use and after winning the semi final they put up a strong fight in the final but were narrowly beaten 3-1. However they were delighted with their Silver medals.
Junior Boys Matthew was our only player in this event - again an early start on Sunday! He came through his first round group in 2nd place which put him into a group of death! He faced one of the top seeds as well as 2 group winners - unfortunately it was not to be for Matthew this year.
Well done to all our players that competed - you are a credit to the club, the coaches and your parents - keep up the good work and enjoy your sport.
