At the same time as we see the publishment of the EU report showing Ireland as second-worst on climate change action and the risk of facing huge non-compliance costs, the Irish Government have announced the following fund available to qualifying projects.. DCCAE web site states;
Climate Action Fund The Climate Action Fund is one of four such funds established under the National Development Plan 2018-2027 as part of Project Ireland 2040. The fund will support initiatives that... contribute to the achievement of Ireland's climate and energy targets.
The Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment has responsibility for implementing the fund, which will have an allocation of at least €500 million over the period to 2027.
The first call for applications by the Climate Action Fund, which will be open to applications from the public and private sector, has been published. As the Climate Action Fund develops, further calls will be made.
This call for applications will provide grant funding to larger scale projects – seeking total support in excess of €1m – that are scheduled to commence development in 2019 or 2020.
The focus of the Climate Fund will be to support a broad range of projects that, in the absence of support from the Climate Action Fund, would not otherwise be developed. This will include projects that demonstrate innovation and capacity building.

Brighten your Lighting with the Department grant.(from DCCAE site).
The Minister for Communications, Climate Change and Environment Denis Naughten is urging small businesses across the country to apply for funding under his Department's Smart Lighting Grant Scheme.
... Minister Naughten secured an increase this year to ensure more small businesses could avail of the Government's Smart Lighting fund following a successful pilot scheme in 2017.
The total funding allocation secured in 2018 by Minister Naughten is €3 million, which is a significant increase on the 2017 budget of €550,000.
"Applications are now open and the increase in funding means the Scheme can be rolled out more widely across the country benefitting even more small businesses this year," stated Minister Naughten.
"The purpose of the support Scheme is to help SMEs reduce their energy use and costs. The grant will cover more than one third of the cost of energy efficient lighting upgrades. There is a further tax incentive under the Accelerated Capital Allowance scheme that is also available and opportunities to negotiate electricity credits with suppliers under the Energy Efficiency Obligation Scheme that would bring down the cost of a smart lighting upgrade even further. This level of payment could help small and medium-sized enterprises save up to 90% on their lighting costs which is a significant saving for any small business. Lighting is the second highest cost for many businesses after staff costs. The maximum grant level is €200,000 but grant payments vary depending on the scale of the project. These smart lighting upgrades will typically pay for themselves in two to three years," added Minister Naughten.

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) is administering the Scheme and applications are open until May 31st 2018. ----------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- ----------------------

WATTSTOR and BYD,S B-BOX BATTERY STORAGE..
BYD’s residential energy storage product, the B-Box HV was just awarded the 2017 Top Innovation Award by PV Magazine. The jury of experts cited the modular capability and charging/discharging performance as the key differentiators that led to the B-Box being selected.
The B-Box HV was chosen from amongst competing products because of a few key differentiators. First off, it is modular, allowing customers to size the storage system a...ppropriately for the application ranging from residential installations all the way up to small and medium commercial installations. It comes in a handful of configurations with battery capacities ranging from 6.4 to 11.5 kWh, depending on the need. Multiple B-Boxes can be linked up for a total capacity of 57.5 kWh for a light commercial application.
The 97%+ efficiency of the B-Box was also noted by the jury, which is complemented by the B-Box’s ability to run to 100% depth of discharge. These two factors combined allow customers to use the battery without losing so much power in the process that it becomes a significant part of the financial equation. Being able to run the battery to 100% depth of discharge also allows customers to fully utilize the battery’s storage capacity, maximizing the value returned to the customer over the life of the asset.
The BYD B-Box HV was first introduced in February 2017 in Germany, with the first installation being announced at the Solar Power International show a few months later in September in Las Vegas, Nevada.
BYD is the world’s leading supplier of rechargeable lithium batteries, with the foundation of its business being the manufacture and supply of OEM batteries for consumer electronics. The company has pivoted in recent years, first with the acquisition and integration of its automotive business, then with a three-pronged push into renewables + stationary energy storage products, plug-in vehicles, and solar panel manufacturing.

I appreciate all those who took the time to tap into the last few articles.It again shows the level of interest in Renewables and the recognition that this industry has the potential to affect everyone. Coming soon in Ireland is a grant to install solarpv domestically, as there presently is for Solar thermal. When we add smart devices and storage to the systems, it increases their efficiency and makes us a little less grid reliant.
