The 2nds beat Lower Shankill 5-1 at the sand siro today, goals from Taylor Lewis and Douglas had us 2 up at half time, the visitors pulled 1 back before Rogers cross come shot found the net, an og after Mckinley's header went in off Carson made it 4 before Doddsy Johnston finished well to wrap it up, 3 much needed points in difficult conditions.GUFC

Tomorrow sees the 3rd meeting of the season for the 1st team with Comber rec, both previous games were away, we won 4-2 in the league then lost 6-2 in the Clarence cup, the visitors sit 1 point ahead of us although we have 2 games in hand, a very tough game is expected and we must be prepared, kick off at the sand siro is 2.00 and all support is very welcome.GUFC

Today we made the short trip to Uldia to face the current league leaders Rosario. In a blustery 1st half in which both teams cancelled each other out Rosario went 1-0 up after a 22 minute goal. Although we have our chances after Dan Ellis had 2 good efforts saved by the Rosario goalkeeper, HT 1-0. We gave everything we had in the 2nd half, played some really good football and deservedly we got a goal as Andrews scored a great header from a Johnston corner, 1-1. As we tried to... push on we were blindsided by a Rosario run which gave away a poor goal in the 77th minute, 2-1. We kept on right to the end trying everything for an equaliser which alluded us. Today was another day where no one could be faulted for their effort, we put in another good performance but without any reward. ⚽ Andrews MOM - whole team (outstanding effort from everyone) We’ll come back with the same effort next week looking for the win. 🔴⚫

This is what Grove youth is all about 👌👌one of our young lads Kevin Tancogne who had recently stepped up to the senior 2nd team went for trials with crusaders just before transfer deadline day and was snapped straight up by them just in time. On Friday Kevin made his debut coming on for the last 15mins against glentoran and doing himself and us proud in a 4-1 win. Hopefully the start of things to come and a great incentive for all our kids that if you work hard and your good enough then you just might follow in Kevin's path also. The 2nds earned a hard fought point against Shorts today at the sand siro, 1-0 up at half time after Hamilton's chip from the edge of the box after the ball fell his way, the visitors levelled soon after the restart, we went 2-1 ahead when Douglas lobbed the keeper, we couldn't hold on for the win and conceded in the 86th minute with a great finish after we didn't clear, all in all probably a fair result as both teams had other chances, the weather conditions did spoil it a bit but credit to all including the referee who had a good game.GUFC ⚽️Hamilton ⚽️Douglas MOM Mconnell.

💜 A match in remembrance 💜
On behalf of the committees of both Grove United Football Club and Shankill United Football Club we’d like to announce “ A Match In Remembrance “ in memory of two people close to the hearts of both our clubs. Karen Mullan and Bertie McMinn.
... Karen is the wife of Grove United legend Simon Mullan and Bertie being the former manager and committee man at our own club.
Both Karen and Bertie were in rooms opposite each other for a long period, in the Northern Ireland Hospice, while receiving treatment. Sadly both lost they’re brave battle and died peacefully in Hospice surrounded by family. Bertie aged 60 died in October 2018 and Karen aged just 43, passed away in feb 2019.
Two “Legends” teams will now take to the pitch on Sunday Febuary 23rd, with a 2pm KO at the Hammer Complex. Home of Shankill United FC.
All proceeds on the day will go to the wonderful cause that is Northern Ireland Hospice. Both clubs will make sponsor forms available, hold a bucket collection and a prize draw on the day of the game. Following the game, refreshments will be served in the Hammer 🔨 - with everyone welcome.
It would be great to raise a substantial amount and make a sizeable donation to such a worthwhile cause. The Hospice is a cause close to the hearts of so many families, not least Karen and Bertie’s.
If any local businesses would be interested in supporting this event/Northern Ireland Hospice, by donating a prize for the raffle or a financial contribution, such support would be much appreciated!

Today we welcomed the league leaders Rosario to the Sand Siro. This was a game which we knew would be difficult for us for a variety of reasons. We went a goal behind after 30 minutes but never gave up and Myers got us level 2 mins before half time, 1-1. We gave it a real good go in the second half with a few good chances but a 2nd goal for Rosario in the 62nd minute left us 2-1 down. We were unable to recover even with all the hard work everyone put in. There was a disappointed changing room after the game as the guys had gave everything; but this shows the passion we have and we will come out again next week aiming for a win!
