We’re home from a very wet North Wales!
Fantastic four days training in Wales with both dogs, Max & we can now say, Duke, preforming absolutely amazing, in horrendous weather. Handler didn’t do too bad either 🤥
First Max. Consistent thorough searches in gale force winds and driving rain. Next month he will have his pre-assessment!
... Duke. We have decided to train Duke to search for deceased people. When trained he will be able to detect deceased people on land, on and under water. Whilst away Duke was introduced to the bate, which matches the scent of a deceased person, which you will see in the video him finding already, and he was also introduced to the boat, which didn’t phase him. From coming from a very poor background, nearly being put to sleep, to learning to get people’s loved ones home.... what more can I say.

We’re off!
On the road for another five days in North Wales. Max is building up his hours getting ready for his assessment, and the pup will go through a few basic tests to see if he was it takes to be a Search Dog.
If you think it’s going to be wet here over the next few day, you should see the weather for North Wales! ⛈💨🌊

We all become very close to our pet dogs, but when you have a working dog, it’s more than that.

Update on the puppy.
The pup is getting on great, playing and getting on more like a puppy should. He loves his bed and getting plenty of love. He will be travelling to Wales this weekend to see if he has potential to be a Search Dog. Keep your fingers crossed for him!

Looks like we might need to change our Facebook name!
Handler and Max travelled to County Monaghan this morning to a council dog pound to see a seven month old Lab cross.
At risk of being put to sleep after being abandoned, the little pup was extremely shy and frightened and wouldn’t make eye contact. It was clear I wouldn’t be able to do a few simple tests to see if he had potential to be a good working dog, but he was introduced to Max and his wee tail started to wag.
... We have brought the pup home to see if he will come out of his shell a little, and then we will see if he can become the latest Trainee Search Dog.
Max was also rescued and took a little time to become himself, so we will give this little man the same chance.

Thanks to Paul and Rusty at HeliPower for a great morning training and getting Max used to working around helicopters. Needless to say it didn’t phase him in the slightest! Looking forward to getting back and working with bigger helicopters soon.
HeliPower offer first class slight seeing tours and private pilot training. Send them a message if you fancy a flight round the likes of Strangford Lough or the Mourne Mountains.
