These guys are brilliant. Good value, collect and drop off quickly to and from airport. Much better insurance wise than the big car hire beasts.
If you are looking for car hire at Belfast's International or City airport my strong advice is to look no further than Kings Self Drive.
I was not one for reading/trusting on-line reviews but having for the first time at a late stage in life traveled independently to several SE Asia countries last year I realise how valuable a resource they can be, hence this posting to return the favour.
I have been a regular visitor from London to NI over the past 30 years. I was there last week once more to visit in-laws and I was lucky enough to hire a car with Kings and as usual it couldn't have been easier and less fuss.
With it being the July 12th holiday week in NI hire car availability was limited. An in-law from Scotland similarly visiting as a result unfortunately had to hire elsewhere with one of the 'name' operators and was by the sound of it unpleasantly shafted at BIA before he even got to the car which it was apparent irked him throughout his short stay. As a result some not too dissimilar and unpleasant personal experiences at BIA in earlier years were brought back to me.
I have been hiring at the NI airports for over 30 years (mainly BIA, sometimes City airport and only occasionally City of Derry). Circa 10-12 years ago thru word of mouth I learnt of Kings Self Drive, who I have been using circa 3 times a year since.
I had I believe used all of the name operators over the years bar one of the current bunch at BIA (whom my In-law in question it appeared had a torrid and thoroughly distasteful time with before he even picked up the car) and I had several disputes with them.
In my personal opinion the name operators are inclined to try it on at every point of contact, from the heavy duty excess insurance hard-sell to petrol and other scams. My heart goes out to the large number of tourists new to NI and what they have to put up with in this particular regard. The short-term opportunism of those concerned really annoys me as it can only serve to dissuade tourists from what is an absolutely fabulous place to visit and particularly for those who want to independently explore by hire car.
I am not saying that my experiences hiring from the names over the past decades has been 100% problematic, of course not, just one too many times I have been left with a nasty taste in the mouth after my stay in NI , most often when my credit card statement arrives and a Micky Mouse charge appears thereon and so much time is wasted to correct the shenanigans.
With Kings my experience has been nothing but positive throughout and being second generation Irish I have probably met over 20 people to date that have mentioned to me they also have used and will continue to use Kings whenever possible with their experiences, like my own, throughout being 100% positive.
My advice is not to be put off using Kings because they have not spent a fortune to buy a 'franchise name' to operate/advertise under.
Try Kings at least once and I believe the odds are that you will be hooked in the best way possible as to airport car hire in NI.
Hand on heart I cannot recommend them highly enough.
We used Kings Car-hire for the first time from June 30th- July 10th and couldn't be happier with our choice. The car was great(with built-in satnav!!) and the guys ,Michael and Paul could not have been more friendly or helpful......we have no hesitation in recommending them and will definitely be using them again when we return to "the oul country" next year!! First time hiring from Kings after many years with Europcar and Hertz.
Europcar and Hertz just don't compare if you're looking for value for money, great and very friendly service.
All so easy with pick up and delivery right from and to the front of the airport.
Just wish I'd known about them sooner!
We've already booked again for our summer visit.
