Laochra Silat An Lúb Description

Laochra Silat An Lúb was born from the enthusiasm of past Silat students to continue their training and practice the Art they had started to learn many years previous. This in turn has snowballed into one of the most committed Pencak Silat clubs in the country!
Over the last few years its members have enjoyed training with some of the best masters the world of Pencak Silat has to offer.
Most Recent being Richard De bordes, Jak Othman and Cecep Arif Rahman, and coming up Bapak Ismail Sujadi
Pencak Silat pronounced penchak silat is the general term used to describe martial arts originating in South East Asia, mostly Indonesia, Malaysia and Borneo.
The name Pencak Silat covers the many combative forms indigenous to this region, many definitions exist of the name but perhaps the best translation is, Pencak (skilful body movements in variations for self-defence) Silat (fighting applications). Pencak is the art, Silat refers to the use of the art in combat situations, which is exactly the way it is taught, first the art of how to move with flowing hand and foot gestures in forms, drills and postures. Then these intricate forms are applied to fighting applications where the true meaning of the flowing movement becomes apparent.
It is a full-body fighting form incorporating strikes, grappling and throwing in addition to weaponry. Every part of the body is used and subject to attack which make Pencak Silat a true self-defence art that maximizes the student’s strengths were height, build and size are not of great importance! Which gives some credence to the folklore that the origins of the art were from a woman who witnessed a monkey defending itself against a tiger. By copying the movement of the animal, she was later able to fend off a group of drunken men. As the story goes she in turn taught the movements to her husband who passed them down and from generation to generation. Were they were added to, and developed into the Arts and different styles we see today.
