Strength yet fragility brought to life by Sharon Regan Artist
Originally from Bangor and now living in Donaghadee, Sharon began her creative life painting in oils, mainly seascapes and landscapes, it was only after a period of illness she explored sculpture.
She loved the tactile process of sculpting, the challenge of working in 3D and the problem solving associated with taking an idea through to completion. She began by making works in wire and soon began to explore clay as a medium and has never looked back. Sharon’s figurative work is often smoke fired, the clay body stressed by the process of firing representing how her figures feel, stressed and slightly damaged. Her new work is more playful and the bright colours of the underglaze reflects this. Today we talk to Sharon to find out a little more about her work.

Capturing Natural Beauty of the Countryside with Quinartshop
Q: Did you always want to be an artist? How did you get started? A: Always wanted to be an artist and followed a mechanical design career in creating printer, mobile phone and automotive solutions to the industrial sections. The career allowed me to travel the world visiting galleries that changed and challenged my art direction. Great family and friends got me started and their support has allowed me this great opportunity to do what I love doing.

Unfortunately I thought this was quite disappointing. Firstly, signposts for the car parks were misleading and far away from the exhibition centre so we got drenched walking there, however, I understand this may not have had anything to do with the exhibition itself, and more like the carparks trying to capitalise off the back of it.

Secondly, more demo's would have been good and not just throwing in a load of pruck in to bulk the show out.

The talks and demonstrations that were on were quite busy, which is fine but there were no microphones at some, so if you weren't at the front you couldn't hear a thing. The layout was far too tight and people behind you were forcing you on. In a nutshell, for a free event, it was ok, but I wouldn't have been happy if I'd had to pay for it.

I had obtained free tickets online and headed down on the Sunday. Unfortunately I have to say i was really disappointed. In my opinion it was overcrowded for the space provided. The aisles were far to narrow which made it a frustrating experience when trying to get past people looking at stalls or pushing buggys. There was a couple of lovely craft stands but they could have done with a more varied selection...all in all not great...was in and out in less than a hour ... would have been really cross if I had paid the £10 ticket price. Could be a great success but needs a lot more organisation and thought put into it ...wouldn't go back !
