#Lyric50 Gary Mitchell’s As the Beast Sleeps was produced by the Lyric in 2001. John Sheehan, then Executive Producer of the Lyric, directed the production and said, “Gary’s ability to dramatise the details in everyday lives of ordinary people illuminates both the beauty and ugliness of our humanity with a universality that is profoundly moving.”
Every week we will be reflecting over the past 50 years and we would love to hear your stories and memories of the Lyric - email us at memories@lyrictheatre.co.uk with all your anecdotes.

We went on Saturday to see Paperboy, which was fantastic. The theatre is comfortable and every seat has a great view, can’t wait to come back again

User

Unfortunately was late for the show (‘Lovers’) today due to a parade in the town but the staff were so accommodating and totally went out of their way to make sure we had the best experience possible!!! Thanks

User

Took my 3 and 5 year old kids to The Snail and the Whale and it was fantastic. Great interaction with the audience, and great way of telling the story on stage and some surprises along the way. We will definitely be looking out for similar productions!

User

The staff at the Lyric Theatre are all pleasant and helpful and go out of their way to help you.

Tender napalm- absolutely beautiful. Took a theatre newbie and she was equally delighted and moved. Hope to see these two great talents again.

User

Snail and the whale a truly Fantastic show great for kids and adults I would highly recommend this to all

User

Not a bad seat in the house. Every seat has a great view of the stage. Ushers very efficient to get every one seated. The Holy Holy Bus is one of the funniest, but at the same time saddest shows ive seen. Our american visitors loved it, fell into the accent very quickly ane loved the intimacy of the theatre

User

Just seen tender napalm ! Amazing to see something so raw and special in Belfast !

User

I took my daughter to see ‘The Snail & the Whale’. Absolutely brilliant production. Wonderfully creative telling and version of the story, creative set & staging, brilliant audience interaction, and perfect length to keep children’s attention. My daughter loved it and hasn’t stopped singing the song all weekend. A magical theatrical experience for young and old.

User

I have just seen Tender Napalm. Having gone to the show without any great expectation, I was blown away. The astonishing beauty of the writing, flawlessly directed, and starring two hugely talented young actors, had me mesmerised from start to finish. N.Ireland in general, and the Lyric in particular, needs to provide much more of this calibre of theatre for its audiences. Real theatre, at its best! It will not be what you might expect. Do not miss it!

User

I have just been to see The Colleen Bawn which I have to say was the funniest, most riotous play I’ve ever been to. The physicality, the singing and the comic timing was absolutely spot on. If you haven’t booked your ticket, do so immediately! Well done Bruiser Theatre Company!

User

Good Vibrations, knockout show, recommended. Cast are excellent. Brilliant use of several flight cases for staging. Musicianship is first rate. Book this show now.

On a side note, Brian Young from Rudi was in the audience and would have been interested to hear his thoughts. (Maybe director wasn't aware of this or didn't want to take away from the cast)

User

Fabulous show/play with superb acting, performing and music. IT ROCKED!!!

User

Brilliant staging of Madame Geneva written by Jo Egan, a story of Gin and debauchery in 18th century London, inspired by Michel Foucault's theories of political will to power, and excellently performed by a professional cast supported by community actors.

The play achieved an excellent balance between musical theatre and the more formal storytelling, cleverly using the staging of Hogarth's Gin Lane etching completed in 1751 and linking this to the establishment in 1758 of the first Magdalene Laundry.

User

Absolutely brilliant show. Great acting, great singing and so very very funny.

User

I came to The lyric with my family as a special day.The play was good and we really enjoyed it. We had a meal in The lyric restaurant, the waiter who showed us to our table was very pleasant but when we went up to the till to order our food the waitress didnt seem very friendly and didnt feel very welcoming. When the meals arrived they weren't very warm.

User

Your staff clearly need to lighten up and not be jobs Worth's disgusted to see a member off your staff ask two elderly woman to move as they where blocking the fire exit the thing is the fire exit door was already open I assume for ventilation in what was a very hot day and also cordoned off surely the cordon was blocking the fire exit as well , not the only time today members of your staff went out of

there why to be jobs Worth's but no point in complaining as nothing will be said or done .
