As the old saying goes ‘the best things come in small packages’.
Our next instalment is a relatively small kitchen within an existing home on the outskirts of Fivemiletown, however what it lacks for in size, it more than makes up for in style and creativity. Our brief was to upgrade a traditional kitchen for a modern painted finish and increase the storage. The kitchen is positioned between the utility and dining room conservatory, so the layout needed to be relatively the ...same. Our design team went to work and created a compact kitchen without compromising on style. Our clients chose light grey Shaker style door and Steel Grey granite in both kitchen and utility to create consistency. Ceramic sink in Porcelain and Bella tap by Blanco sit beautifully in the Steel Grey granite with drainer grooves for extra work surface. The upper cabinetry is illuminated to showcase glassware and china tea sets. Long drawers to the left provide extra storage for crockery and cooking utensils. Curved gables and cornicing soften the corners and this is reflected in the curved corners in the granite. The cooker side of the kitchen comprises of double oven to the right with storage above and below. Fridge freezer to the left with wine box overhead. Induction hob in the centre reveals both ‘step out’ at the front (whereby the cabinetry is pulled forward of the taller units and allows that softening of the granite over curved posts) and ‘step back’ (whereby a shelf is created to protect the antique glass behind the hob). Simple mantle overhead with concealed extraction was designed and manufactured by McGovern Kitchens also. Sturdy Blum drawers to the right of hob allow for pantry storage, while wide drawers under hob provide storage for utensils and cooking equipment. Microwave is concealed in long cupboard in utility kitchen allowing more worksurface in the main kitchen. This is wonderful space and our clients have a keen eye for interior design and an uncanny knack of mixing modern and retro with superb results. They have firmly convinced us that you don’t need a big space to achieve a beautiful, on trend kitchen.

Who lives here: Our next instalment is located in one of the border villages of Cavan. Our client has been working closely with us since 2017 and her efforts have been duly rewarded with her perfect kitchen. Our design took many attempts at the beginning. We started with Aga cooker and ornate surrounding mantle and another design with eye level ovens with hob and freestanding extractor fan. However, it was the range cooker and bespoke showroom canopy which was settled upon. ...The island also had several makeovers before final design was stamped. Bespoke island with tongue and groove under breakfast counter and discreet socket plugs for gadgetry. Our client invested in chunky washable stools which look great. Larder Fridge and Freezer are adorned on either side with pull out pantry style larders. There are tons of storage in this kitchen. Corner le mans takes care of a tricky corner. Wide drawers on either side of range cooker allow for all utensils, crockery and pots. Wide drawers on either side of island allow for the spill over. Our client chose a painted flat panelled Ash door with delicate beading detail in two shades of grey. Long glass cabinet with discreet drawer display fine tea set and glassware. Stratus White Sinquastone adorns our cabinetry and our client gave it the attention it deserved. Pencil Edge around the main kitchen and Ogee edge around the island creating a luxurious feel. Who lives here: In a world full of greys and whites, what a pleasure it is to showcase this elegant Washed Oak kitchen installed in 2017. This combined open kitchen and living space are filled with traditional warmth and charm yet there is a modern feel to the overall design. Our brief was for American Style Fridge, eye level ovens and space for table and chairs. By positioning the Fridge on the right side between the two the doors we were able to centralise cooking on th...e left with modern stainless-steel canopy hood. Wide drawers under Induction hob and corner LeMans Carousal provide ample storage for equipment and crockery. Eye level ovens housed in tall cabinetry provides storage above and below. Under the large window a Classic Blanco sink and Arti tap sit above dishwasher and bins leaving extra storage to the right. Our clients refrained from putting cupboards on every wall and instead choose floating shelves to display their eclectic mix of pottery and personal items. Formica worksurface and upstand is Shadow Oak with complimenting glass backsplash behind hob. Appliances by Nordmende, and Haire. Floral blinds and painted table and chairs complete the look. Our next instalment is Cavan, on the outskirts of the town. Our clients were looking to update their existing kitchen and were very involved in the whole design process, paying particular attention to the finer details. Design specifications included a pantry for dried food, bespoke mantle and a fitted unit to display glassware. The centre piece of the kitchen is the existing black and silver AGA. Our clients were keen to make a feature of this central applian...ce and it took many designs to find the perfect fit. The final bespoke mantel design is majestic in Hartford Blue and stands proud. Bespoke panelling and bespoke shelf stand on sturdy hand carved legs. Our clients placed an antique mirror backsplash to bounce the light around the room and reflect the stained-glass window on the opposite side, it all works perfectly together. For the rest of the kitchen our clients, with a keen eye for colour and design, chose a Lincoln designed door in Tulipwood, which has a super smooth finish whilst decorative dental adorns the cornice. Glass upper cupboards on either side of the mantle are backed with mirror to reflect and increase the natural light from the patio doors. Bespoke pantry had multiple designs as it was important that it did not over shadow the room. By pushing back the top half of the pantry and bringing the granite through the centre, thus allowed this large storage area to sit comfortably on the opposite wall without it dominating the room. Oak spice brackets keep all the smaller items in one area while 3 long drawers allow for spill over food items. On the back wall integrated fridge freezer and double ovens with induction hob and overhead canopy extraction. A cute matching fitted glass cabinet with mirrored back and glass shelves displays fine china and crystal glasses. Our clients choose Snowflakes Granite which brings the whole palette and design together harmoniously.

Here is a wonderful use of space. Our clients Tina and Sean Lavery had reconfigurated their ground floor with a new area for their kitchen (featured on Friday). The remaining space was the original kitchen!! Our clients have used the space to full capacity creating a wonderful laundry/utility room and cloakroom using every inch of space. Tina raised the washing machine and dryer to arm level for comfort and placed a hanging rail right across the large window to take full advantage of the south facing sun. There is room for larder fridge and tons of deep drawers and shelving keeping all the utility items together. A fantastic use of space.

Who lives here: Our next instalment is in Cavan, just outside the town. Our clients have completely re-configurated the ground floor of their warm and cosy home. Walls have been taken down and the layout has completely changed. The result is a bright and airy space with a clever little laundry room which we will feature separately. Because of the re-configuration, our design changed many times to ensure the best use of space. To the left of the room we have an induction hob... with McGovern Kitchen bespoke handmade mantle. The ovens are eye-level and tucked away to the far right of the design with deep drawer and secret drawer underneath. Fresh, frozen and dried food are consolidated to the right-side wall. The food pantry has quartz worktop running through to allow for extra counter space with integrated larder fridge alongside. Deep Blum drawers and corner cabinetry soften the corners. A central island with sculpted quartz provides storage and extra workspace. There is no shortage of storage with 3 sets of long drawers, corner carousal and a handy pull out drawer for tea towels and detergents. Dishwasher and bins sit either side of the sink. Our clients chose a Shaker Style door in Pebble with shaker style brushed steel, door pulls and knobs. A delicate Sinquastone Quartz in Stratus White blends beautifully on the worksurface, upstands, pantry, window sill and backsplash behind the hob. A delicate turndown at the sink creates the illusion of a Belfast Sink. Appliances are by our clients, sink and taps by Blanco.

Who lives here: Our next instalment is an existing home in County Cavan on the outskirts of Swanlinbar. Our brief was an extension to an existing kitchen, thus increasing the floor size and configuration of original layout. An existing red AGA was the only restriction to the re-configuration, so our design team set out to create a modern design with some traditional twists. Client specification was for island with seating, bespoke mantle for new range cooker and to increase ...the storage. Our clients chose to two tone their kitchen by choosing Pebble for the large units, overhead cabinetry and mantle and Pierce for island and undercounter units. A simple solid wood Shaker style door with shiny pebble knob and handle complete the look. Bespoke mantle with shelf and internal storage frames the new range cooker. The granite wraps around the legs of the mantle to create a water tight seal. Wide drawers to the right and internal LeMans Carousel to the left allows for all utensils and crockery to be stored close by. With extra floor space we could afford to be a bit more creative with our island. Our designer introduced a turn and overhang at the end for high stools, giving our clients a large uninterrupted worksurface in Snowflakes Granite for preparing and serving. Concealed plugs under the overhang allow for electrical equipment to be used on the overhead surface. The Island also houses the microwave and cute wine cooler with endless storage on either side. Extra-large Blanco sink was relocated to the side wall surrounded by Snowflakes Granite and a turn down on the granite under the sink adds detail and the illusion of a Belfast sink. Dishwasher and bins all fit nicely underneath. Blum Storage tower on the right of wine box and integrated fridge freezer to the left consolidates all the food items into one area. Appliances by Nordmende and Neff. Our clients are delighted with their new open space kitchen and dining area.

Our next instalment is located closer to home on the edge of Derrylin. A new home for a young family, our clients had a large area to work with as they were incorporating their dining room and kitchen into one space. To the right side of the kitchen stands the range cooker with McGovern Kitchens Bespoke Mantle overhead. Turned pilasters adorn either side with wide drawers for all the essential storage, while tall cabinets on the other side are illuminated with pillar box wi...ndows to display all their lovely crockery. Handy storage within the mantle allows for all the essential cooking oils and sauces to be discreetly tucked away. Fresh, frozen and dried food storage are centralised on the back wall. Bespoke pantry with large deep drawers and larder fridge and freezer on either side consolidates all the food to one area. The island stands proud in the centre of the room with sink, dishwasher and bins directly opposite the cooking area. Our clients deliberately decided against putting an overhang and seating on the island, to encourage the family to sit around the table for meals. To allow for traffic flow around this cute corner table, we sculpted the island on the top left-hand side and it works beautifully. Plug sockets at the gable end of the island allows for baking equipment and blenders to be used on counter top. Our clients chose a Shaker Style Painted door in Alabaster and Pebble. Ceramic handles marry well with the retro touches which our client has so beautifully pulled together. Colonial white granite worksurface and upstands compliment the whole colour scheme with cute grey and cream tiles for backsplash. A wonderful and practical space. Appliances by Nordmende.
