About Moving On Music
Leading promoter of jazz, folk, roots, traditional, classical and “other” music.
Moving On Music Description
Who we are
Since our establishment in 1995, Moving On Music has grown to become one of the leading promoters of jazz, folk, roots, traditional, classical and “other” music in Northern Ireland. We are an independent, not for profit organisation and registered charity and endeavour to provide an eclectic array of entertainment and education services to the entire community. We are dedicated to ideals of innovation and originality, championing new developments in music, inspiring and nurturing musical talents and providing opportunities for everyone to get involved in music.
What we do
Vision:
A Transformed Creative Future for Northern Ireland stimulated by ‘ Music with an Edge. ’
Mission Statement:
To Achieve Excellence through Stimulating Music Development in NI throughout the next Five Years
Clustered Events
Throughout the year we will present various clustered events including Electronic, Roots and Contemporary Music weekends. These events showcase the very best of local, national and international musicians.
Presentation and promotion of special one-off events in Belfast
We present and promote a large number of special one-off events in Belfast, which embrace all types of music and take place in various venues across the City.
Co-ordinate tours
We co-ordinate tours, which feature local and international acts and cover a wide range of musical genres, such as jazz, traditional, classical, bluegrass and pop /rock. We then work with an extensive network of venues, local authorities and arts /community centres, to bring these tours to audiences across Northern Ireland.
Brilliant Corners – a festival of jazz in Belfast
Each year, during the final week of March, we host Belfast’s only jazz festival, ‘Brilliant Corners’. The title is taken form the 1957 album by the great Thelonious Monk; a ground breaking work and one of the ‘1001 Albums to Hear before you Die’. The festival combines local talent with international contemporaries, and Belfast audiences have really embraced it, with numbers growing year on year.
As always the focus is on quality music, and we aim to deliver the most exciting programme of jazz each year. BrilliantCornersBelfast.com
Education and Outreach Projects
Another important part of our work is our education and outreach projects, which aim to provoke a curiosity in music for the first time, nurture existing interests in music, or assist with the professional development for musicians pursuing careers in the industry.
This includes workshops, mentoring, commissioning work, professional development schemes, talks, performance opportunities and informal advice.
We have also delivered larger scale projects such as ‘New Songs for Sandy Row’, ‘Beyond The March’, ‘Stagecraft’ and ‘Flight of The Earls’.
Event Management and Consultancy
Annually, we are involved in programming music events at some of Northern Ireland’s largest festivals, and act as a broker for local authorities and those involved in music events.

Belfast, you'll not want to miss this.
Peter Brötzmann’s ‘Full Blast’ presented by MOM and TTA Thursday 4 October at the Black Box.
Brötzmann is a bona fide living-legend of European jazz. Imagine Pitchfork magazine calling you "one of the most devastating forces to ever touch a saxophone”. Crazy.
... It's the first in a series of co-promotions with The Thin Air too. Come along and get rattled!

Moving On Music regularly supplies us with vital and nutritious food for the soul.
If someone said 'Emily, you can only leave the house for Moving on Music gigs', I'd be grand with it.
Brought NI music into the 21st century. Most of the best gigs in Belfast in recent years have been MoM gigs.
