Northern Ireland Healthcare Leadership Forum

A society for all healthcare students that promotes leadership and encourages the best possible care to their future patients

The Northern Ireland Healthcare Leadership Forum (NIHLF) is a student society at The Queen’s University of Belfast providing free events to students and qualified healthcare practitioners, exploring the leadership and service delivery challenges affecting the National Health Service in Northern Ireland. The NIHLF aims to inspire all of those going into healthcare provision to take a role in leading service change and improvement, whether or not they wish to be employed in a formal management role in the future.

The NIHLF works with healthcare leaders from across Northern Ireland in order to provide its audience with knowledge, tools and insights into the leadership and service delivery issues affecting modern healthcare systems. The NIHLF also hosts a Local Experience Network (LEN), providing CV-enhancing experiences to healthcare students in the form of service and quality improvement projects, internships, work-shadowing and leadership courses (subject to availability).

The founding principle of the NIHLF is that healthcare professionals in all disciplines are well placed to make decisions about the systems through which healthcare is delivered. The NIHLF is therefore a multi-disciplinary society, intended to appeal to individuals from all healthcare disciplines; from nurses to doctors, physiotherapists to dentists and biomedical scientists to pharmacists. The Constitution of the NIHLF requires that there is representation of a variety of different healthcare professions on the Committee so that all professions have a voice in the activities of the NIHLF.

The NIHLF continually updates its website to keep its audience informed of up-coming events. The website also contains educational tools, including a blog, in order to provide useful material to its audience beyond its events.
