NIKPA is delighted to congratulate Mrs Jeanie Martin who was recently honoured with an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours list.
Jeanie is one of those scientists we as patients rarely if ever see. Without her expertise in the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory (Tissue Typing), the Belfast Transplant Programme would not be where it is today.
Working in the lab now for over forty years Jeanie did once attempt retirement. She was (thankfully) persuaded to continue... on and since 2015 has held the position of Interim Head of Lab with marked success in enabling those with complicated immunological issues to be transplanted. NIKPA applauds Jeanie's dedication to his vital area of work. So very many of us have benefited from her abilities...we are indebted to her.

Congratulations to The Daisy Hill Renal Unit who held a beautiful service of rememberance and thankgiving, on Sunday last, to celebrate the units 20th year.
The service paid tribute to the staff and patients, past and present, and to organ donors and their families. We are grateful to you all for everything you have done over the last 20 years and we wish you every success in the future.
After the event all attendees were invited back to the Canal Court for refreshments. At which an amazing £594 was raised for the Northern Ireland Kidney Patients Association so we would like to thank everyone for their very generous donations.

NIKPA were delighted to receive £1750 from Bernadette O'Grady and Shauna McKeever who both work at Moviehouse, City side, Belfast. The girls raised £1500 from ballots for hampers and £1500 from a quiz night at which the girls had their hair shaved off. Michael Mc Adam, owner of Moviehouse generously donated £500 making a grand total of £3500. This was split with NIKPA and Arthritis UK, the charity Shauna was supporting - each charity receiving £1750. Congratulations to Bernadette and Shauna and many thanks to all at Moviehouse City side for all the support given.
