Northern Ireland Mixed Marriage Association Description

NIMMA is a volunteer-based group, formed in February 1974, which has spent more than 40 years fostering reconciliation on the island of Ireland. NIMMA's main aims are to act as an advocate for Christian inter-church marriage and to provide comfort and care to mixed marriage couples and those contemplating mixed marriage. These are people who have, ‘traditionally’, been excluded and isolated within a society that is steeped in sectarianism. We challenge that sectarianism, which is often institutionalised, and seek to create tolerance and acceptance of mixed marriage through pastoral care, publications such as our books about the subject which are being used in local schools and shared campus and public lobbying in the fields of integrated education and shared social housing. We are in partnership with the Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education and the Department of Social Development in the latter two areas.

NIMMA is a registered charity with the Northern Ireland Charity Commission.
