When the vertebrae in your spine experience structural shifts, it can throw off the optimal alignment of your spine. If this occurs, nerves and muscles become irritated and send messages to your brain that something is wrong. These spinal shifts are the primary condition we treat with chiropractic care.
When a shift is present for a while, it begins to affect other areas of your health and can result in secondary conditions like pain, stiffness, and other issues. Stiffness i...s your brains way of stabilizing and protecting the area from further injury (i.e. preventing further shifts). You may also feel sore and even tired because your body has to work harder just to maintain the structure needed for you to get up, move around, and live your day to day life. A structural chiropractic adjustment seeks to address the underlying cause for your health issue by determining where the structural shift has occurred and then delivering a specific thrust, either by hand or instrument, to correct that shift.
A chiropractor that specializes in structural correction will give a detailed examination to try to locate these shifts in the spine. This exam may include a posture exam, range of motion testing, and imaging to give you the most specific care possible.

Short on time and need to warm up quickly? Here are seven warm-up drills you can do anywhere that will prepare your body for any type of workout. They don't require any equipment, and they are a lot more fun than walking on a treadmill.

Have you ever had pain somewhere, but when you try to touch it, you can't quite seem to get to it? This can be referred pain, or a cuteaneous nerve problem, but it can also be dermatomal pain. That's pain on different areas of the skin coming from the spinal nerves. This neurology can be affected by spinal dysfunction and/or muscular imbalances.

From my experience, pain in the simpler joints like the knees and elbows is often driven by the more complex neighboring joints. I find chronic knee pain is typically driven by instability in the hip or problems in the ankle for example. For elbow pain problems in the shoulder or wrist could be the driving force. Yet another reason to think globally when addressing pain.

When there is dysfunction in our bodies, we compensate and adapt to that dysfunction. We do it so well we don't experience any pain. We are asymptomatic. More dysfunction, more compensation/adaptation. Our first awareness of PAIN is not a time-stamp for when the dysfunction began, but rather it is the point when we can no longer compensate effectively. We have reached maximum tolerance. Our threshold has been breached and the body lets you know via pain and restriction.

Poor breathing patterns can lead to compression of the lumbar spine. When the pelvis tilts forward and the diaphragm tilts back (this is common in people with poor posture), each breath, instead of creating stability for the spine, creates compression on the lower spine. This over time can overload your back and create a dysfunction.

"I guess I'm just getting old" is a common remark from patients trying to explain why their symptoms have developed. However getting old doesn't cause injuries. Being older, though, does mean you have had more opportunity and time to accumulate trauma and stress in the body. The age of the car doesn't determine the necessary maintenance schedule.....your driving and mileage do. Get your spine checked at the Omagh Chiropractic clinic, you could be overdue your 10,000 mile service.

Combination of Massage Therapy and Chiropractic Care: Chiropractic care and massage are two distinct therapies that can be undertaken to relieve problems on the musculoskeletal system. Chiropractic care and massage are also often combined to achieve more beneficial results. Chiropractic care involves the alleviation of joint dysfunctions that lead to irritation of the nerves. When the nerves are impinged or irritated, there is significant loss of function which can cause the ...muscle to tighten around the affected joint. The main aim of chiropractic care is to manage these joint problems in order to manage the nerve and muscle affectations and influence organ system function. However, in some cases of joint dysfunction, the muscles around the joint become so tight, it makes the joint adjustment more difficult. In this line, massage and chiropractic care is combined in order to reduce the muscle spasm, perform joint adjustments, improve joint mobility and manage pain.

Does anyone else get stressed during the holiday season? All the time commitments, financial obligations, traffic – oh my!
Did you know that a chiropractor may be able to help alleviate some of that stress? It’s true! They can!
Regardless of the cause, when the body is under stress, the its fight or flight response is triggered. Your sympathetic nervous system (SNS) is stimulated, which heightens your senses and increases your heart rate, which is a leftover defense mechanism... from the time of our early ancestors.
Luckily we have chiropractors who focus on the spine, which is a structure designed to protect the nervous system.
One of the effects of chronic stress is muscle tension and contraction, which can lead to uneven pressure on the skeleton. And that leads to subluxations.
Chiropractic adjustments can help ease muscle tension, which then can ease the stress on certain parts of the skeleton. Which, of course, can help ease subluxations.
Easing these subluxations — and achieving a balanced spine — is a very important element of managing personal stress.
