Julie Fallon, the self- taught mosaic artist, based in belfast.

Julie Fallon, the self- taught mosaic artist, originates from the idyllic town of Heresford, England. One of seven children, Julie moved to Belfast to pursue her passion for arts aged 18. Her parents, both teachers, realized Julie’s creative flair and so in 1989 Julie began studying textiles at Belfasts prestigious art college, the University of Ulster.
After graduation Julie and her husband Michael became parents to Conor. It was during her pregnancy that Julie created her first ever mosaic piece; a hand cut ceramic courtyard. Being ‘self taught’Julie aimed to master the technical element of mosaic resulting in her trademark meticulous work.
This one piece of mosaic saw Julie become a sought after artist in Belfast. While raising her young family, Julie was limited to small commissions only and, although never advertised, was rarely out of work; indeed, often she had a waiting list of clients.
Of recent years Julie has enjoyed more flexibility now that her young family have grown up. During the last 5 years Julie has occupied a studio in Belfast prestigious Lisburn Road and has been commissioned to create mosaic pieces for some very high profile clients. Julies sought after skills have taken her to England, Portugal, Italy and Greece where she has worked on pieces in both the public and private sector.
Recently Julie had several large jobs to undertake back to back and thus moved to a bigger set of workshop studios in the highly acclaimed artistic hub of Lawerence Street Studios, Belfast. The creative interaction has given Julie a new vibrancy to her work. Julie’s trademark attention to detail and her love of bespoke personalised pieces mean that no two mosaic pieces will ever be the same. Each piece is truly a work of art.
Although now an established artist for over 20 years, Julie has intentionally remained low- key and has shyed away from media attention, partly for discretion for her clients. Nevertheless, among home designers and interior decorators, she is well revered.
Julie lives in Belfast with her husband, three sons and two dogs. When not working in the studio Julie spends most of her time trawling through vintage magazines looking for inspiration for her next piece.
