Ownies Bar & Bistro
Based in the heart of Carrickfergus, we serve patrons from across Newtownabbey, Belfast, Larne and beyond. Winner of Northern Ireland Neighbourhood Pub of the Year Award in 2010, our current owner is proud to support numerous local charities and run a number of community events. Visit Ownies Bar & Bistro and you will find friendly locals and tourists alike.
Proud of our history, you can expect to find something for all ages at our bar. We run a range of events, from our regular open mic night through to retro discos and seasonal functions.
Our current owner has worked hard to maintain the warm and homely atmosphere passed down through the ages. Whilst keeping Ownie's traditions alive, we have also extended the building to make way for some exciting innovations.

Established as The Joymount Arms in 1846, the bar has since been re-branded as Ownies Bar & Bistro. The name change came about in tribute to Leo McCullogh, owner of the bar for over 70 years. Fondly nicknamed 'Ownie' after the patrons overheard his grandchildren failing to pronounce his name, the name has stuck ever since. A caricature of Ownie himself now stands proud over the bar entrance - a fitting tribute to our famous predecessor.

Went for our Christmas dinner last night and was very impressed! The staff were fantastic and the service was really well organised!!! To top it off the food was beautiful!!! I think we sampled everything between us all and everything was really excellent! Entertainment could have been better upstairs but you knew what it was when booking so unfair to criticise. Thank you ownies for a great night!
We had a family lunch on Saturday We would like to thank you for accepting our booking for 20 of us to sit together as we had family over from England. The food was delicious, service was excellent, staff brilliant. Thankyou from Ailsa , Colin Railton & family
Was in with the family and pup today. Dinner was amazing. Was lovely not to leave her at home. Several other dogs in and not a peep! If only children were as well behaved! Staff were very helpful and friendly! We will be back :)

Our first visit today for Breakfast to Ownies Dog Friendly Zone at the Back Downstairs with our New Tibetan Terrier puppies called Dusty & Pepe. The staff were amazing and Breakfast was fantastic. Thanks again for making us so Welcome. Xx
My wife and I had a lovely meal with our daughter and son in law and will definitely be back good food and very pleasant staff that's why I recommend it to my two cousins who were staying in carrickfergus over the 12th and they loved it.
Lovely meal again. Ownies consistently serve good food. Steak tonight was perfect as always. Very busy tonight but service very smooth. Hats off to Brenda and all the staff.

Just back from here celebrating my mum & dad's 40th Wedding Anniversary..14 of us and couldn't fault it what so ever the food was absolutely gorgeous � good portion size� and the service was 10/10 will definitely be returning �
Had the monkfish and prawns red Thai curry last night and it was beautiful.. great friendly service too.. always enjoy the food here.
Had a meal here this afternoon with family and I have to say how impressed I was with the vegetarian menu. Most restaurants have one or two veggie options at best, whereas today I had about five! I can’t remember the last time a restaurant offered so much choice for veggies and it all sounded great. Massive thanks to Ownies for not making us vegetarians feel like our menu was an afterthought! Service was great too.
Had a lovely lunch today while our Doggy slept under the table after a massive run, brilliant we could go in and chill after being out in the sun
