Pauline Oliver
I was born and raised in Belfast, settling in Bangor, Co. Down. My mother was born in the Faroe Islands and while growing up she was taught the traditional crafts of knitting and dressmaking by her mother. These traditions were handed down to me at a very young age. While attending Glencairn Secondary school, Belfast, I was inspired by my teacher, Mrs Martin, to continue down the road of dressmaking.
In 1971 I won third place in the Singer European Stylemaker competition then went on to gain
first prize in The Spinningmill Competition.
In 1993 I completed City & Guilds Fashion Part One, 7802 at North Down and Ards Institute of further & higher education, and then went on to complete part two, this training taught me preparing working designs, hand craft production, extended fashion skills, and encouraged many explorations of materials and processes.
In 1997 I began part time teaching in Fashion. Through this career I developed my interest in Art and Textiles.
In 2004 I completed my PGCFHE and became an Associate Lecturer in Fashion & Textiles
In 2009 I completed a level 3 BTEC Foundation in Art & Design Course (Distinction) at South Eastern Regional College, Bangor, then went on to gain a BA Hons Fine & Applied Art , Textile Art, at University of Ulster, Belfast.
I am from a fashion background, having trained in pattern cutting and design; working with various types of fine fabrics. Recent exploration into textiles has added a new aspect to my work. Focusing on a different direction through the manipulation of natural and synthetic fibres, my work explores the process of ageing. My inspiration comes from my own body whose changes inspire me and encourage me to develop my own creative perception of them incorporating them into my own designs.

Are you interested in learning a new skill? Why not enrol in one of my sewing classes. Classes are for all levels. Come join us in a friendly environment. Meet new people and learn new techniques.
Sewing classes start week beginning Monday 10th September 2018
Classes run for 7 weeks 1 class a week
Daytime classes cost Β£85
Evening classes cost Β£80
50% deposit will be required to secure a place, which is non refundable.
Full payment is required before classes start.

Pauline altered my wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses and mum's dress. She was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble & even though one of my bridesmaids dresses was quite late arriving it was all ready & beautiful a few weeks before. Highly recommend!

I have done a few of Pauline's sewing classes and can say she is one of the nicest patient ladies I have ever met would defnately recommend
I cant recommend Pauline's alteration work enough. She is such a skilled seamstress, she altered my two bridesmaid dresses even one that was miles too long. She even help create a belt on my wedding dress, which was very intricate work. Pauline is very precise with her work & made us all feel very welcome in her home when we arrived for the fitting. Highly recommend her for all kinds of alteration work :) Thank you again Pauline for all your hard work.
I cant recomend Pauline's alteration work enough. She is such a skilled sewer, is very precise and had these four bridesmaid dresses fitting perfectly despite the fact one of the dresses was two sizes too big and two were very long. Pauline made us all feel very welcome in her home when we arrived for the fitting and made every effort to tweak the stitching to ensure we were all completely happy with the dresses.
Highly recommend Pauline complete perfectionist! Great job altering my daughters formal dress , a pleasure to do business with !
