Great day providing physio at the All Ireland Masters Track and Field Championships in Tullamore, Co Offaly. Fantastic quality throughout the age groups with some of the times and distances putting many to shame. Oldest competitor in field over 90 years young. Just inspirational.

HALF MARATHON INJURY TIPS - OVERTRAINING?
Our bones, muscles and tendons are designed to deal with a certain amount of 'stress' from impact and movement involved in our training and daily lives. This impact is essential for healthy bones and joints, and as you increase your miles your increasing the amount of 'stress' your tissues can handle (all part of the strengthening process). However the closer we get to race day the higher the risk of increased stress and 'tissue overload' which can lead to injury. The biggest cause of this is over training I.e. Doubling up on missed sessions, poor rest/nutrition or a change in training type too close to race (starting speed sessions for example). So remember to keep consistent, eat well, rest often and taper!

We are proud to continue our association with the Waterside Half Marathon, happy training and we will see you all at the finish line!

Our next posture is our best posture.
"As human beings, our movement capacity should be vast. If we only stay in a small handfuls of postures we arenโ€™t fulfilling our movement potential, and weโ€™re creating more dysfunctions and weaknesses because of it."

๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿปwhat I've been saying this whole time! In the first 6 weeks after having a baby anything is normal, incontinence, pain etc. At 12 weeks things should be getting back to normal and at 20 weeks you shouldn't have any symptoms Message to book a MummyMOT

๐Ÿ˜” one of the reasons girls drop out of sport/exercise It would be great if this was part of health education in schools. Why not share this resource with your pre-teens & teens - you might help a whole lot ๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ People are *always* surprised by number 3 -JIC-ing or going 'just in case' (when your bladder isn't full) makes your bladder more sensitive therefore you will get the urge to go when it isn't full ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Going more often and a less efficient bladder ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป To work out if you are going too often count how long you pee for - should be at least 10 seconds! โณ

RECOVERY
Most of us are good at fitting a rest day or โ€˜recoveryโ€™ session into our training programs. However this needs to be the same with rehabilitation, keep it simple, when trying to get a muscle group stronger it needs recovery time, much like our normal training program does #lessismore

HIPS DONT LIE!
Low back pain in golfers is very common. There is obviously a lot of rotation involved when swinging a golf club, while a lot of this comes from the back a huge amount of rotation actually comes through the hips (especially the dominant side), stiff hips force excessive rotation at the back and can contribute to back pain. Hip flexibility is a must for regular Golfers!

SHOULDER PAIN
Shoulder pain in over 50โ€™s is very common and is usually caused by a dysfunction of the Rotator Cuff muscle group. This can be injured by trauma (fall etc..) or can come on gradually with no trauma. Pain is felt usually at the shoulder or in the bicep area and can be associated with pins and needles into the arm or hand. Physiotherapy can be very effective in managing rotator cuff injuries but a muscle strength program must be included! #cantgowronggettingstrong

KNEE PAIN IN CYCLISTS
Knee pain is very common among cyclists, and is usually caused by an overload of the cartilage in the knee (meniscus). Where the importance of a proper bike fit and appropriate equipment cannot be understated, it can sometimes be best to keep it simple. Hip flexibility and general overload (big volume) are usually the main causes. A hip flexibility and strength program with a small reduction in miles can often cause a significant reduction in symptoms!
