About Philip:
Born in Belfast in 1954, Philip attended a school during the 60's where lengendary footballer George Best was just a few years ahead.
Philip has always sketched and his drawings became more graphic as the pop music of the Beatles influenced him. His first serious portraits were of the four portrait studies from the White Album around 1969. Philip completed his A Level Art a year ahead, after achieving Grade 1 at O-Level. His love of portraiture was evident even as a teenager.
Philip has a broad appreciation of art history, travelling to visit museums in New York, Boston, Venice, Rome, Paris and Brisbane Australia, and has found great joy in studying various historical painting techniques.
Philip has spent years forging his own style by leaning to replicate those that interest him, and assimilating what he learns through technique to his own approach. Philip spent time researching the techniques used by the old masters and The Impressionists, among others, in order to fashion his unique skill.
Over the last 30 years, Philip has received commissions for portraits, landscapes and even a religious subject for a church. These have come from a variety of sources- local customers and as far away as Canada and California.
Philip has exhibited in as varied a set of venues from local cafes to the Waterfront Hall in Belfast.
