Physiotherapy & Nutrition Solutions Description
Physiotherapy & Nutrition Solutions
Derek Finnegan (Chartered Physiotherapist & Nutritionist)
I qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 2007 on graduating from Kings College London. Over the past seven years, I have worked as a Physiotherapist in Liverpool (St Helens hospital / Whiston Hospital), Belfast (Royal Victoria Hospital / Musgrave Park Hospital) and more recently as a Senior Physiotherapist in Neurology in Co. Monaghan (Monaghan Hospital / Community). During this time I have gained a vast amount of experience working in Musculoskeletal Outpatients, Orthopaedics, Neurological Rehabilitation, Medical / A& E, Respiratory / ITU. During this time, I have also worked closely with many athletes and sports teams including (Waterloo Rugby Team and Liverpool Century Cycling team) to name a few.
Prior to becoming a Physiotherapist I qualified as a Nutritionist having graduated from the University of Ulster. I worked as a Nutritionist for safefood based in Co. Cork and published a research article on “The health effects of stimulant drinks” in the British Nutrition Bulletin.
I have worked with individuals using evidenced based weight management programmes to help them to achieve their goals and improve their wellbeing. I have also worked with many athletes to help them achieve their target weights and improve their performance improvements with optimum nutrition.
Sport has also been a big part of my life, having taking up cycling (road racing) at the age of eleven. Prior to working as a Physiotherapist / Nutritionist, I spent two years a full time athlete in Belgium for two years (1999, 2000) racing against the likes of Tom Bonnen (winner of numerous Tour de France stages, Paris-Roubaix and Tour of Flanders Classics) and I competed at the highest level at World and European Championships.
SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS

• 2011: Stage win – International Tour of the North
• 2006: Represented Kings College London at University World Championships
• 2000-2001: University Sports Scholarship (University of Ulster)
• 1999- 2000: Elite Amateur contract (cycling) - Belgium (2 years)
• 1999: U /23 World Cycling Championships - Verona, Italy
• 1999: U /23 European Cycling Championships - Lisbon, Portugal
• 1997: Junior World Cycling Championships - San Sebastian, Italy
However, I decided to return to studies and focus on the two areas that I believe make the difference to an athlete /Individual in achieving their goals (Physiotherapy and Nutrition). Many athletes are good at training but usually don’t get the most from their training due to inadequate nutrition, being pro-active in preventing injury and often taking longer to recover after injury due to not getting appropriate Physiotherapy treatment. The combination of Physiotherapy and Nutrition will help you to achieve your goals in ensuring best recovery from injury and using scientific evidenced based nutrition to achieving target weights.
At Physiotherapy & Nutrition Solutions, you will receive the treatment you need and the care you deserve.
