Traffic around the town especially heavy today, even for a Saturday.
Use Sweep Road / Westland Road / Morgans Hill to get around the town. Dont forget Molesworth and Sandholes Roads are still closed for gas main laying.

Thanks to our colleagues in PSNI Newry, Mourne & Down, Police have recovered a stolen New Holland tractor which was taken from a field in the Ardboe area recently. The farmer was greatly relieved to get his tractor back as you can imagine. They don’t come cheap. If you’re interested in Mid Ulster Farmwatch please get in contact with any of the Neighbourhood teams or PM us and we’ll get back to you. #RuralCrime #Farmwatch

Folks. Let's not forget about speeding either. Watch your speed and adhere to the speed limits. They're there for a reason. If you're caught speeding it'll cost you £65 and three penalty points if not a wee visit to the local Magistrates Court. #Keepingpeoplesafe

Cookstown NPT are out and about this evening in the Mid Ulster area carrying out vehicle check points and conducting random breath tests. This is part of our Summer Drink Drive initiative. Remember that just one drink can impair your driving. Never ever drink and drive. #Nevereverdrinkanddrive

Currently dealing with an RTC at the top of the town just before the dual carriageway. Road will be cleared shortly but combined with the roadworks on Beechway its causing delays leaving the town towards Moneymore. Trafficwatch NI BBCNI Travel

We need your help! A Shetland pony has been found in the Coalisland area. It's brown and white in colour and in pretty good condition. If you own the pony or know who does please contact Cookstown NPT on 101 Extension 52142 and we will reunite you with your lost animal. #Keepingouranimalssafe

Cookstown NPT officers called into the Washingford Day Care Centre Sweep Road Cookstown this afternoon to remind the kids of the importance of road safety and keeping safe on our roads. The importance of always wearing our seat belts in the car and our cycle helmets while out on our bikes was also discussed. Thanks to Washingford Day Care Centre for having us down. #Keepingourkidssafe

So often we are accused of picking on motorists and one of our favourite retorts from the public is do you have nothing better to do?
Well the answer to the second question is yes we do have lots of important issues to deal with but to the officer on the ground that motorist that he has just stopped is the most important thing at that time.
Why do we stop motorists to deal with what the public can think are minor traffic infringements? Well and I know to the majority of read...ers of our page this won’t come as a huge surprise but criminals travel, they don’t like breaking into their neighbours houses so they go else where, and here’s the clever bit they travel by car.
So whilst we will stop people for traffic infringements we are also looking to see who is travelling in our district and of course trying to make the district safer by removing drug/drink drivers.
So why the rant we hear you say, we know all that we hear you say. Well the reason is simple we can prove this works, over the weekend we stopped a vehicle because it didn’t have its lights on, on speaking with the driver our officers received the grounds to carry out a search of the vehicle and the persons in it.
The result of this search was one male arrested for possession of Class B and C drugs, driving whilst unfit through drugs and theft. So not only have we removed deadly drugs from the community we also removed a danger from our roads and a thief as well not bad for one stop.

The cost of rural crime, can be more than just financial. It can have a negative impact on a family, community as well as a farming business. NFU Mutual Insurers recently highlighted the cost of rural crime in Northern Ireland, and we continue to work closely with them and partners in the Rural Crime Partnership to identify preventative measures and to educate the rural community on how best to protect their property and possessions.
We remain committed to stamping out rural ...crime altogether, in fact according to PSNI statistics, the 12 months up to 31 December 2017 showed a decrease of 63 to 497 crimes against the farming community in Northern Ireland when compared with the 12 months to 31 December 2016. The number of burglary, robbery and theft offences relating to agricultural-based activity has shown an overall downwards trend since 2010/11.
According to the NFU report, quad bikes and ATV (all-terrain vehicles) were among the items which were targeted by thieves. In response to this concern, we have been working with our colleagues in the Rural Crime Partnership, and in May of this year, a subsidised support scheme was launched to help tackle the growing number of quad and trailer theft by encouraging owners to fit an electronic tracking device to proactively deter theft and assist police with recovery should an item be stolen. equipment.
We would also continue to urge everyone to sign up to the FarmWatch scheme. If you have any concerns or want to talk to a Crime Prevention Officer about crime prevention, please call the 101 number.

Police have issued a fresh appeal for information, four weeks on from a fatal road traffic collision on the Castlewellan Road in Banbridge (Sunday 8 July), in which a 27 year old man died. Inspector Graham said: “Gary Hamilton was travelling in the direction of Banbridge when his Yamaha motorcycle was involved in a collision at approximately 9:45am that Sunday morning. “I would appeal to anyone who has not yet spoken to police and has information that could be useful to our ...investigation – to get in touch with us as soon as possible. “Any witnesses to the collision, or anyone who has dashcam or helmet footage and was travelling on the Castlewellan Road between 9.30am and 10am and observed the motorcycle prior to or at the time of the collision, should contact officers in the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference 639 of 08/07/18. “We are particularly interested in hearing from people who were on the stretch of road between the school at Ballydown, near the Lisnaree Road and the T-junction where the Aughnacloy Road meets the Castlevennon and Katesbridge roads. This is a well-known junction, where there is a filling station and shop, as well as a farm equipment supplier. “I would also like to speak with the drivers of a number of vehicles which were in the area at the time as we believe they may have information that could help with our enquiries. They are a red Ford Focus, a black Ford Kuga, a red Vauxhall Zafira and a silver Mercedes.”

Now, we know there are people that will do anything to make themselves famous for five minutes, but I never realised people really tried to get on the Facebook page “Parking Idiots of Northern Ireland”.
Not that we endorse the page or what they do, but we were sent this image today of a vehicle in Cookstown.
This person clearly was in such desperate need of a parking space that they decided the footpath was the place to park.
... Drivers please remember that footpaths are for pedestrians, not cars!
