The service users at Praxis Care Foyle Young People Services recently took part in a 16 week group work programme with headliners. The young people created a very honest and inspiring film called “One Step at a time” in which they shared their personal journey and experiences of living with mental health issues.
The aim of the film was to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health and highlight that there is support out there in the hope that they could help others.
The ...young people spoke really positively about the support that they have had whilst living at the Foyle Young People’s project and about their time on the step down service.
The project helped develop confidence and practical skills in film with some young people completing an OCN level 3 in film.

On Thursday 15th November Praxis Care will be hosting a conference on "Creative Solutions for People with Intellectual Disability, Autism and Mental Health Difficulties." The conference will be held in the City North Hotel, Gormanstown, Co. Meath.

The walk will start at 12 noon at the Pickie Park Café Bangor and will finish at Crawfordsburn Park.

Today, Praxis Care alongside Mencap in Northern Ireland and Queen's University Belfast launched the findings of the co-produced 'Supported Decision Making- experiences, approaches and preferences' Research Study.
The project examined the experiences of people with mental ill health and learning disabilities in relation to decision making experiences, approaches and preferences. The research explored solutions that may more effectively empower people with disabilities to dire...ctly influence their own decision making.
The research was funded by the DRILL (Disability Research on Independent Living and Learning) programme and Big Lottery Fund.

Yesterday, Praxis Care St.Paul's Court welcomed the Virtual Dementia Bus as part of the Virtual Dementia Tour.
The Virtual Dementia Bus is funded by the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust and is a scientifically proven way of helping care staff and family members understand what those with dementia experience everyday.
The bus was open to families, carers and staff from the voluntary sector, and the Trust. The Praxis Care team were grateful to have had the opportunity ...to gain first hand experience of the physical and mental challenges facing those with dementia, and will use this experience to continue to deliver the best possible, patient-centred care.

We were delighted to attend Lismore Comprehensive School's Health Fair Event today.
The fair offered information and advice to students and parents on mental health, cancer awareness, volunteering, PSNI and drugs awareness, woman's aid work, healthy eating, etc.
A number of students from neighbouring schools were also invited to the Health Fair.

For many young people, their time at university are the first years they will spend away from established networks of family support. This can be a risk factor for developing mental health difficulties.
Today Praxis Care want to empower all members of the university community to be active in supporting better student mental health.
