During the last Financial Year (1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019) there were 7 people killed, 55 people seriously injured and 568 people slightly injured in Road Traffic Collisions in the Ards and North Down District.
Something we can all consider, to help keep everyone safer on the roads, are the most common causes and if we can modify our driving behaviour to avoid being involved in a Collision.
Across Northern Ireland for Collisions involving killed or seriously injured casua...lties the top 3 causation factors during this period were –
· Wrong course/position · Inattention or attention diverted · Excessive speed having regard to conditions
For all injury Road Traffic Collisions, the top 10 causation factors during this period were -
· Inattention or attention diverted · Driving too close · Emerging from minor road without care · Wrong course/position · Crossing or entering road junction without care · Turning right without care · Impaired by Alcohol/Drugs - Driver/rider · Excessive speed having regard to conditions · Overtaking on offside without care · Changing lane without care
All deaths on our roads are unacceptable. They are unnecessary. Most of them are avoidable. That is why Road Safety is and will remain a Policing priority.
Please give this some thought and make Road Safety your priority also.

Detectives in Bangor are appealing for witnesses following an incident on the Ballymiscaw Road, Craigantlet on Tuesday evening, 21 May.
It was reported that shortly after 6pm a 25 year old male was driving along the Ballymiscaw Road in a small white Ford Connect van when he was stopped by a masked male armed with a suspected firearm close to the junction of Ballyregan Road. A second male then approached the van and the man was forced out of the driver’s seat and into the rea...r of the van. The two males then got into the front and drove off. The males stopped the van on the Ballybarnes Road close to its junction with Ballysallagh Road and made off in another vehicle believed to be driven by a third accomplice leaving the man in the rear of the van.
The man was not injured but left shaken by his ordeal.
Detective Constable Dickson is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact detectives in Bangor on 101, quoting reference number 1681 25/05/19. Detectives are particularly keen to speak with anyone who was travelling on the Ballymiscaw Road or Ballybarnes Road on Tuesday evening and saw a small white van in the area. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
