The Human Rights Centre aims to support human rights in the local and global community. We aim to support academic and human rights organisations, in the promotion of human rights.
The Human Rights Centre was created in 1990 and has a proud heritage of having served the local community. The Centre’s Members continue to produced research of international excellence and are recognised as leading scholars in their respective fields. Members are regularly called upon to participate in consultants work, to appear in print, television and on radio, and are often called upon to share their expertise at national and international conferences.

‘Eminent Monsters’, which is screening at the QFT on 16 February, explores the links between psychiatrists, the military, and the development of torture techniques. It features the case of the “Hooded Men” before the European Court of Human Rights, which may of interest to HRC followers. Further details below:
Dr Prosper Magucha of Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, is delivering a seminar on transitional justice, human rights and asset recovery this Tuesday, 4 February, in the Moot Court room at 10am. Dr Magucha will also be discussing the Scholars at Risk network, and the risks faced by a scholar in Zimbabwe.
Dr Magucha has worked as a senior projects lawyer with the Zimbabwe Human Rights Forum specialising in public interest litigation on behalf of torture and organised violence victims.
All are welcome to attend what promises to be a fascinating seminar.
