Big thank you to Nutts Corner Circuit for letting us use their facilities for testing throughout the year! Apart from helping us get valuable data from the car it also gives our drivers a chance to have a little fun ππ @ Belfast
So yesterday didn't go quite as planned but we all stuck together as a team and worked through everything thrown at us. Amazingly, despite the sprint being the only dynamic event we got through, our team finished 23rd overall! π
We started off yesterday with a few sleep deprived members who amazingly rebuilt an engine and gear box in one night! We were all unsure whether our car would start but after another long day we headed down to the testing area to find we had a working... car ππΌ After a quick refuel we headed down to start our endurance.
So our car started off flying round the track but unfortunately a car infront of us wasn't able to make it round the hairpin a few times meaning we had to also stop. Our run of bad luck continued when, during the increased clutch actuation, the cable end fell out out of the actuator. A chance of one in a million. This resulted in us being unable to re launch and, as this happened before the driver change, resulted in a DNF.
Our team was gutted to say the least but we're all super proud of how we worked together and managed to even get our car out with all the problems we've had! So as you can see in the photos we all still had smiles on our faces and had an amazing time at Silverstone 2019 ππ #silverstone2019 #formulastudent #QFR19 #whatateam #proudofeveryone #congratulations #mechanicalengineering #queensformularacing @ Silverstone F1 Racing Circuit Uk

How to install your driver 101
Jack absolutely flying round the chicane yesterday, still so impressed at the speed he got with only first gear πππ
Little look at the tilt test yesterday
Been a late finish and early start for a few of the guys on the team. Currently trying to get a few of our gears back, not sure our drivers want to try get round in one gear again π going out for a practice spin then hopefully will get out to the endurance!
Super proud of everyone today, it's been a testing day but we all pulled through! Videos of the day will be posted later this evening, so make sure you keep an eye out ππ
A quick change over of drivers and it was on to the sprint! With only an hour to spare the team rushed over to the start line, unfortunately our gears gave out on our first attempt and the car had to be wheeled off the track π
but this wasn't enough to stop QFR πͺπΌ we pushed through and got our car fixed and round it's second attempt. Amazingly we got a decent time of 1.06 going round in first gear the whole way ππΌπ
The winning go π
Final scrutineering update is for the break test, had to make a few tweaks as we weren't stopping straight but wasn't long until the smiles were back on our faces after passing
The relief our team felt once we got the engine running for the noise test is clearly shown by our driver Jamie ππΌ
Didn't get a moment to post, been a bit of a rollercoaster down at the pits! We finally got the last three stickers π The tilt test was no bother to QFR19 but we unfortunately ran into an issue with our engine going into the noise test π
this meant we couldn't make the acceleration or skid pad events and had to work through them.
Wright Buses big thank you for all your support in helping us develop a future electric vehicle. You've helped to prepare us for the big change to come!
1, 2, 3... scrutineering stickers coming in rightly now ππΌ
Wheels getting wrapped and ready, final push to get everything perfect for the last parts of scrutineering
Another thank you today from QFR, this time it goes to Denroy Plastics for providing us with technical support throughout the making of QFR19. We wouldn't have made it to Silverstone without it! #technicalsupport #sponsored #formulastudent #denroyplastics #qfr19 #queensuniversitybelfast #sidepods
