During our centenary celebrations in 2008, Nelson Mandela accepted a unique honour from Queen's and became the University's Centenary Honorary Graduate.
Regarded as one of the most important figures of the 20th & 21st centuries, today he is remembered on what would have been his 100th birthday.

Is it even a party if the Statue of Liberty doesn't turn up?
There will be a brief intermission for refreshment as Queen's Film Theatre closes tomorrow for a major renovation.
The refurbishment will have it's premiere in time for Cinema Day on 27 August and ahead of the theatre's 50th anniversary celebrations.
“This is an exciting and significant year for QFT. October marks the theatre’s 50th anniversary and we are delighted to be refurbishing Screen 1 ahead of its ‘golden’ anniversary. QFT has been a cultural hub in Northern Ireland since 1968 and we are currently planning an exciting programme to marks its 50th.” (Joan Parsons, Head of QFT)
