About Rebecca Scott-Pillai, Ibclc And Sleep Coach

IBCLC and holistic sleep coach, offering breastfeeding support and help with your child's sleep.

Rebecca Scott-Pillai, Ibclc And Sleep Coach Description

I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) working out of Lisburn. I am available to visit you at home to help with breastfeeding issues, or you can arrange an appointment to see me during office hours.

If you are pregnant and planning to breastfeed, I hold regular breastfeeding workshops for first time parents as part of my Bumps, Birth and Bonding classes (www. bumpsbirthbonding. co. uk /services). I also offer a unique workshop for mums who have breastfed before but who didn't meet their breastfeeding goals, called Breastfeeding Take Two, where we can explore the more complex breastfeeding issues that arise sometimes, as well as strategies to maximise success with your next baby. Details can also be found on my website (www. bumpsbirthbonding. co. uk /services).

A common issue that I come across when I’m doing a consultation is the following scenario:
Baby breastfeeds to sleep. Mum puts baby down in the Moses basket/cot. Baby wakes up.
Poor mum wants help! Mum is concerned that baby is learning bad habits by breastfeeding to sleep or that there is something wrong because baby wakes up again.
... Breastfeeding is a fantastic way to soothe babies and get them to sleep quickly and easily. It’s in their nature to fall asleep after a good feed and I always think working with nature is much easier than trying to impose an unnatural routine.
So how do you keep babies asleep?
I’ll cover a few other options over the next couple of days but for now here’s a great tip for getting babies to stay asleep when you do have to put them down:

For several months at the start my little boy wouldn’t comfort feed because he couldn’t work out how to do it without getting milk and he would *only* feed if he was hungry.
He’s a year old now and feeds for hunger a lot less often (because he loves food) but I absolutely love it when I come home and we sit on the sofa and reconnect with a comfort feed, which he interrupts every few seconds to smile at me.
Comfort feeding is just one of the many benefits of breastfeeding.

Survey on tongue tie services here in NI. Thanks Carol for a really comprehensive analysis of parents’ experience.

User

If your baby has had a tongue tie revised in Northern Ireland in the last two years please consider completing this survey.

I can’t love this enough.
For all the mums out there who didn’t meet their breastfeeding goals and find this week hard. Xx

Breastival Belfast today!! I’m talking twice: an informal session on expressing and a talk on Breastfeeding Basics.
Who else is going?

I’m doing a couple of sessions at Breastival this year. Very excited and privileged to be talking at it.
Still a few tickets left!

Thank goodness, a sensible assessment of the so called “evidence” that starting solids early helps babies sleep better.

From my other page

I’m not convinced mothers sat and stared at their breastfeeding babies before the advent of smart phones. Is it an issue?

User

I have a stand at the NI Positive Birth Conference on the 28th September. The lineup looks great so why not book a ticket?

User

Met a lovely bunch of mums and mums-to-be today!

This. This. This.

I’ll be attending the breastfeeding group in Warrenpoint next Friday morning (22nd) if you need some help and support, or just a chat and a cuppa with other breastfeeding mums!

Well said

I have been very quiet on this page for the last few months, enjoying my maternity leave. Hard to believe this little guy is now 9 months old!
I now have limited availability every week for consults and will be volunteering at at least one breastfeeding group too.
Feel free to contact me for advice or to be seen face to face.

New campaign by the Public Health Agency. What do we think?
If you click on the link you can watch the video ad, not sure why it’s not coming up automatically.

Worth a follow. And if you’re breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed, the closed group Breastfeeding in Northern Ireland is a fantastic online resource and support group.

I know this is an ongoing issue here. Was the information entered correctly in your baby’s red book?
To clarify, “exclusively breastfeeding” refers to the milk component of your baby/toddler’s diet, regardless of whether he/she is eating solids.
