I'm delighted that we have managed to secure fabulous yoga teachers Colin and Valerie Eliot to cover Monday and Thursdays classes for the next few weeks whilst I'm off tending to the small matter of having a baby ­¤śŹ
I feel very priveleged to have managed to teach such lovely groups of students right through the whole of my pregnancy. Throwback to the pre pregnancy days, with no bump in sight...!
At 37 weeks pregnant, my body might not be able to do what it could do then, but I remind myself every day how amazing the job it's doing right now is.
I might not be up to the acrobatics, the headstands, the strenuous backbends, the dynamic strength work. Heck, let's be honest, most days I'm doing well to tie my own shoelaces! ­¤żŻ But the thing I love about yoga is that there is always something I can do. Some si...mple stretches, breathing exercises, meditation.
It is important to meet ourselves where we are. It may not always be where we want to be, and may change at different points in our lives, but by embracing our capabilities at any given point we say yes to who we are in the present moment, instead of who we feel we should be.
Maybe it's time to let go of your own expectations and give yourself permission to be who you are right now ­¤śŖ

The theme for this month's yoga classes - gratitude.
Too often in January we focus on what we should do better, what is wrong or missing from our lives. We beat ourselves up for indulgences or mistakes we made, telling ourselves that this year things will be different - that WE will be different.
I am all for positive intentions and self improvement, but perhaps sometimes what we actually need is kindness towards ourselves and gratitude for the many positives we are already ...surrounded by. Opening up our hearts and being thankful for our blessings instead of negative self-talk can lead us to a place of joy, where we can then (perhaps ironically) find it is much easier to take action and make any positive changes we'd like to see in our lives.
This week I'm asking all our yoga students to focus for just a few seconds each day on something they are grateful for, and to see if it makes a difference in any way. Why not give this a try yourself?

A little late to the "Happy New Year" party I know, but new year for me is as much a time for reflection on the year past as looking to the year ahead.
As I'm sure has been the case for many, 2018 for me has brought it's fair share of ups and downs, challenges and successes. It was the year Renew Yoga was formed, and the most special new beginning of all, it was the year we decided to grow our family, with our little miracle due to arrive next month.
I cannot thank everyone ...enough for their support over 2018. Our wonderful clients, old and new, who week in week out bring enthusiasm, commitment and friendship to the mat. Our fabulous pilates teacher Julie-Ann Rainey, who provides excellent professional tuition alongside much appreciated general support for the studio. And last but not least, the main man Shayne @rebuildfitness360, who turns up for me every time and without whom Renew Yoga would not have been possible.
Settling away from family and long-term friends will always bring it's challenges, but I have been overwhelmed by how readily I have been accepted into this close knit community, having lived here for less than 2 years. I cannot thank each of you enough for the personal and professional support over 2018, and I look forward with excitement to what lies ahead this year ­¤śŖ
