While working on the actions of the Royal Irish Rifles during the last four months of the war I came across a map of the Lys Valley with a few markings on it. The map was donated to the museum by Mr S Neill MM RAMC of the 36(U) Div OCA. The map belonged to Lt Col Davison Commanding Officer 109 Field Ambulance 36 (Ulster) Division it shows the location of the division on the final push of the war towards Courtrai.

Sorry senior moment 74 years ago

Remember today, 73 years ago young men like Stanley Burrows on LCI`s waiting to go ashore in Normandy as part of the third wave onto Sword Beach. Young men like Bill McConnell waiting on airfields in the south of England preparing to board gliders as part of 6 Airlanding Brigade. Remember all those who never got through that day as you drive home and have your dinner. Quis Separabit

On their right well forward of the bridges now known as Ulster Crossing the Belgian Battalion still held the salient over the river. On the 22nd contact was made with the enemy o...

Remember It is a soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us the Freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, Who has given us the freedom of speech,... It is the soldier, not the campus organiser, Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate, It is the soldier, Who salutes the flag, And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows us the protester to burn the flag.
