Saint Patrick'S Country

About Saint Patrick'S Country

Focusing on Northern Ireland's authentic Saint Patrick and Christian Heritage and in particular Patrick's connections with Armagh, Newry and Downpatrick, County Down, NI.

Saint Patrick'S Country Description

Saint Patrick's Day on March 17th is, famously the day when, right around the world, everyone who is – or who wants to be – Irish sports a touch of green and celebrates the Saint’s feast day in style. The global festivities of colour, traditional song and dance, wit and ‘craic’ are as well known as the popular legend that Saint Patrick rid Ireland of snakes.

But what of the real Saint Patrick? You’ll get closest to him and his powerful legacy in Saint Patrick’s Country in the heart of Northern Ireland. Capital of Ireland for 1, 500 years and the seat of both Church of Ireland and Catholic archbishops, Armagh is the oldest and most venerated of Irish cities with its two Cathedrals named after Ireland’s Patron Saint. From here, where Saint Patrick founded his first church, to Downpatrick in the adjoining County of Down where the Saint was finally laid to rest, runs a rich vein of Christian heritage just waiting to be discovered.

Delve into Saint Patrick’s Country, visit our ancient sites; immerse yourself not only in the legend and landscape, but also in the powerful spiritual legacy with year-round events and exhibits providing insight into our profond Patrician heritage.
