As we meandered along the Mourne Coastal Route last week just following the signposts and in awe of the incredible scenery, eventually the notion of getting a cup of coffee became paramount.
Entering Newcastle, we could see the place was buzzing and when we stopped opposite Sea Salt and saw that all tables outside this busy Café & Bistro were occupied, it looked like a good omen. We waited patiently until some people finished and left a table and quickly took temporary ownership. Although we really only wanted a cup of coffee, it was too tempting to review the menu. Willie ordered the Smoked Salmon on sourdough while I enjoyed the same on Potato Bread. Potato Bread seems to be a staple in Northern Ireland while it's hardly seen in Co. Cork unless it's homemade. Our plates were full and even though there was a lovely array of sweet goodies just begging to be tasted, I didn't have the space to enjoy so left them for another time.
We were agreed that we will be back and will take more time to explore this lovely ribbon-like town and enjoy more on the Sea Salt menu too.

Lovely food and great service. Good location on the sea front.

Nice looking wee cafe inside, got the full breakfast, was nice but would be better if they stuck to the traditional Irish breakfast! There's no point in doing your own take on it unless its better! The potato hash is like eating a Christmas stuffing I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth all day! Their homemade breads are not as good the good old traditional soda, wheaten and potato breads! So prob better serving them!

Cosy, relaxed cafe with fashionable as well as classic menu options. Attentive staff. New England decor with quirky driftwood novelties. Decent veggie options with some limited vegan choices. If there had've been more dedicated vegan alternatives I'd have given it a five star rating. However, I'm aware veganism is still a novelty in N.I. so don't hold this against them.

Has went down hill. Couldn't boil and egg for an egg salad. Ask us if a fried egg would do

Fantastic home cooked food, it was worth the drive down from Belfast alone

It's good for a fry after a Sunday morning walk on Newcastle promenade.

Great café menu, had an excellent vegetarian breakfast and the goats cheese quinoa salad recently. Tastes, little twists, portions, prices everything spot on.
