Welcome to The Sheridan Stage School

The Sheridan Stage School is an innovative, independent Performing Arts school offering equal opportunities to the complete beginner right through to the young professional performer. Students are taught the disciplines of Acting, Singing & Dance in a supportive, fun and creative environment. Whether performing is a pastime or a passion we encourage students to develop at their own pace and we offer performance opportunities for students every term.

At The Sheridan Stage School we take great pride in the social development of our students. We bring young people together in a fun and exciting community to explore the world of theatre and performing arts. No matter how large or small the goal, at the Sheridan Stage School we will encourage students to surpass even their own expectations.

The Sheridan Stage School was established 13 years ago by Rozlyn Sheridan and now has schools in Newry, Warrenpoint and Silverbridge. . The school is now firmly recognised as a performing arts centre for young people who wish to explore both their imaginations and creative abilities.
The School operates weekly classes during term time and run a wide range of summer courses. Classes are open to all ages and are led by fully qualified teachers who have a unique combination of experience in both practical application and theoretical expertise. All tutors and class room assistants are CRB checked and hold a first aid certificate.
The Sheridan Stage School aims to encourage young people to develop confidence by enhancing communication skills. Through drama, voice training, dance and public performance students will gain positive self esteem and develop a wide range of theatrical skills.

OUR STUDIO
Our main studio is situated in WIN Business Park, linenhall House, Canal Quay in the centre of Newry City. Here we have a large and airy studio with free parking. This centre is open five days a week with a full timetable of classes in all genres.

OUR CLASSES
We offer a wide variety of classes for all age groups. Most classes are 60 minutes in length for younger students and 1 hour 30 minutes for Senior students. Classes are divided according to age in the following categories:
Tiny Tots - 4yrs – 7yrs
Juniors – 8yrs – 11yrs
Seniors 12yrs – 18yrs

DRAMA

Tiny Tot Theatre Workshop 4yrs-7yrs
In this class our younger students gain their first experience in drama, singing and movement in a learning atmosphere.
The children work on specially selected songs and dances to build on their musicality, as well as their rhythm and co-ordination. Drama games are played in order, to enhance confidence and basic script work is used to develop performance skills and vocal technique. Students are also introduced to poetry and prose and may enter examinations in Speech and Drama with the New Era Academy, London.

Junior Theatre Workshop 8yrs – 11yrs
The Students are taught all elements of performance as they improve in acting proficiency and stagecraft, building on previous skills. They will plan, rehearse and perform a broad variety of theatrical styles. Students will study poetry, prose and monologues and may enter examinations in Speech and Drama and Acting with the New Era Academy, London.

Senior theatre Workshop 12yrs – 18yrs The Senior Theatre Workshop is aimed at giving students an overall experience of Performing Arts and Theatrical background. Elements include: script work, improvisation, characterisation, vocal and physical expression, sight reading and singing presentation. Senior Students may now participate in our in house Short Play Festival and enter for Acting and group examinations with New Era Academy, London.

SINGING

Musical Theatre Classes Our singing classes include the teaching of techniques for warm up, breath control, increasing range, clarity and projection. In addition to working on songs from a variety of musical styles, tutors will teach vocal control and musical theatre technique. Students enter solo and group examinations in musical theatre and will perform in end of term showcases. Classes are dived into three groups: Musical Minis 4yrs – 7ys, Musical Juniors 8yrs -11yrs, Musical Teens 12yrs – 18yrs

GOSPEL CHOIR
This class has been designed to introduce students to Gospel and Soul music . Our choir members create unique harmonies and work together as a musical ensemble which performs at functions and church celebrations. To date the gospel choir have performed at various balls, gala events and charity functions. They have performed for the Cast of Emmerdale and have been part of the line up for The Blues on the Bay Festival in Warrenpoint. They have recorded their first Album “How Sweet The Sound” and have also performed at Church performances of the Christmas Nativity and Stations of the Cross. Age: 7 year +

DANCE

Dancing to the latest music from the charts and covering a wide variety of styles, dance moves are geared specifically according to the age and ability of each class. The students can improve their co-ordination, polish up their technique for the dance floor and keep fit and flexible at the same time. Challenging for the experienced dancers yet attainable for the less confident. Our dance classes are funky and fun! We are eager to create strong dance troupes to perform in public demonstrations and our end of term productions.

Examinations

The Sheridan Stage School enters examinations with the New Era Academy in London. This examining board offers a syllabus designed to promote personal development, confidence, presentation, communication and performance skills. New Era Academy London has been awarded accreditation by Ofqual, the office and examinations regulator for the UK. New Era's appointment as an awarding body means that all the grade examinations they offer from foundation level through to diploma level, are recognised within the NQF (National Curriculum Framework) by Ofqual, CCEA, ACCAC and CC skills. New Era has also been accepted by UCAS to set up recognition of their advanced level grades and diplomas within the UCAS tariff for entry to university.
The Sheridan Stage School offers graded examinations in Musical Theatre, Speech and Drama, Acting, Communications and Group performances At a time when competition for university degree courses is at its peak these examinations are an extra bonus for all students.

AGENCY

All students are represented by the Sheridan Stage School Agency and may get the opportunity to appear in film, television, and theatre. The Sheridan Stage School Agency has a growing profile both in Ireland and the UK resulting in our students having been cast in various projects. We have a professional photographer who visits the school twice a year and we recommend all students keen to be considered for professional work get their headshot taken. Recent success stories include students been cast in the following: HPV advertisement, The Race (feature film) various voice overs for CBeebies, My Red Hands (short film) GAA advertisement for Ulster Bank, six teams selected for BBC’s CopyCats. Award winning short film “small Change” (which won an IFTA at this year’s film and Television awards.

SUMMER COURSES

Our intensive summer Musical Theatre Courses are hard work but great fun. We cover a wide range of activities and workshops including script work, improvisation, singing and dancing. The main focus of the course is the production of a musical complete with props and costumes which is fully rehearsed for performance on the final Friday afternoon.
Past Musical in a Week courses include: Glee, Mamma Mia, The princess and the Frog, When Annie meets Oliver, Wicked, Disney Camp Rock and High School Musical.

HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS: Watch out for our one off themed workshops at Halloween, Christmas and Easter.

SCHOOLS

The Sheridan Stage School Touring Company is now in its third year of bringing the magic of theatre to schools. A troupe of professional actors tour schools with their annual pantomime and a senior student is also chosen to become part of the crew. The staff at the Stage School are also available to direct shows within primary and secondary schools. Rozlyn Sheridan is resident director at Our Lady’s Secondary School and The Boys National school in Castleblaney. To date she has directed numerous productions including: Godspell , Disney High School Musical, Grease , Disco Inferno , Seussical The Musical, Guys and Dolls, The Jungle Book and Shake Ripple and Roll.

REGISTRATION
The Sheridan Stage School is open to all ages and abilities. To enrol your child, please contact the school for availability. Enrolment forms can be downloaded via our web site and all parents /guardians must submit this form along with a signed copy of our terms and conditions. A £10. 00 registration fee per student is payable each year and all term fees are payable in advance. Term dates and fees are available on request.

UNIFORM

We encourage all students to wear the Stage School uniform which comprises of a T shirt and hooded jacket.
