School friends Jeff Ross and Mick Martin are setting off on Saturday 6th July for a 80 mile walking challenge from Dublin to Banbridge. Both men who are from Banbridge are trying to raise money for their chosen charities, the Southern Area Hospice and AWARE NI.
Jeff, who decided to support the Hospice again this year, after completing a Mourne Wall trek last year for Hospice said:
''I like to support the hospice every year if I can. It takes over £7,000 each day to keep the ...hospice running, which is alot of money. The service they provide is so invaluable, and I'm sure we all know of people who have received hospice care.'
If you can please support Jeff & Mick on their fundraising journey, then you can donate via their justgiving link below. Thank you.

👟👟👟Step Into Summer Challenge - for adults and children 👟👟👟
Could you walk up to 100 miles in one month?? This summer the Southern Area Hospice Services are inviting you to register for their Step Into Summer Campaign which allows you to set your own challenge to walk a targeted distance over the month of July or August. Everyone can take part no matter what age - you simply choose a month during the summer (July/August), set your target distance which can be anything from ...10mile to 100miles and you have the entire month to cover your chosen distance and if you’re successful, you get a prestigious medal as a reward for all your hard work!
With your pack you will also be given a log sheet to track your miles which you can hand in as proof of your distance. Kids are also encouraged to take part with a great kids pack with a calendar for them to complete too and a colouring sketch.
Denise Doyle, Community Fundraising Officer commented ‘I am delighted to launch the Step Into Summer campaign to encourage everyone to get out and about this summer. It can be hard in the summer months so we would like to motivate people to enjoy the great outdoors by inviting everyone to come along and sign up to our campaign to get fit and healthy this summer. You will also be helping support your local Hospice which is an amazing incentive to complete your challenge’.
Registration is £10 per person with no set fundraising target so whether you raise £5 or £500 every penny will go towards supporting your local Hospice. Why not get your friends, family or work colleagues involved. You can register at Eventbrite, by messaging us at the Southern Area Hospice Services Facebook page or by calling us on 028 3025 1333.

This week, is Carers Week which is a campaign that raises awareness of caring and highlights the contribution carers make to families and communities. Caring for someone with a life-limiting illness, while rewarding, can also present Carers with many new challenges and can be a tiring experience. Southern Area Hospice runs a Carer’s Group on the last Friday of every month from 11am-1pm where you can meet in complete confidence. The group aims to provide a period of ‘time out’ where carers can seek emotional/social support and friendship from others who understand their situation. If you would like to attend the carers group or find out further information please contact Rosy Adams, Hospice Social Worker on (028) 302 67711. New members are always welcome.

Brother and Sister, Ursula Currie and Conor Coary present James with a fantastic cheque of £3673.20 raised through running the Belfast Marathon in memory of their late mother. They also presented a similar cheque to Charis Cancer Care Cookstown. What an amazing amount fundraised and great efforts all round. This is very much appreciated at the Southern Area Hospice and will go a long way to help future patients that they care for. Well done!
