A Level Chemistry students have been hard at work during practical lessons. This practical was the preparation of 1-bromobutane, from the topic ‘Halogenoalkanes’. Brilliant!

It was with deepest regret that we learned of the death of former founding Principal of Erne Integrated College, Tom Noble. Tom was a pioneer of Integrated Education who inspired many others to follow in his path. Our school was privileged to host Tom as the Guest Speaker at Prize Night shortly after his well earned retirement. In our very early years of development, Tom offered the hand of friendship to us by inviting our first teachers and pupils to Erne College for the da...y. This gave us the wonderful opportunity to experience a well established and successful integrated school in action. Both Mrs Chambers and Mrs Monaghan hold particularly fond memories of Tom, having spent their early years of teaching under his Principalship. He was a gentleman whose warm humour and genuine passion for Integrated education was greatly appreciated by them. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and the wider community of Erne College. The Board of Governors, Principal, staff and pupils of Sperrin Integrated College.

#SeriousSupport Derry, Antrim, Tyrone #Derry #Antrim #Tyrone Ladies Gaelic Football has taken off in Sperrin Integrated College, Magherafelt over the past Year and a half with great success. Fantastic numbers of girls have enjoyed afterschool training sessions held by external coach Aidan McLaughlin from LGFA. Additional lunch time sessions are held weekly. Our Yr8 and U14 girls are heavily involved in the Ulster Ladies Gaelic Football Association competitive matches/blitz's ...and enter these annually. Our U14 Girls Gaelic Team were finalists in last years 'Foyle Shield' after only a year playing in the Ulster Colleges Competition, with our own Kaitlin Woulahan winning Player of the Match. The diversity of sport in Sperrin is one of our strengths with pupils from all communities heavily involved across the sporting spectrum. We love that pupils travel from 3 counties to attend Sperrin College (Antrim, Derry and Tyrone) and play at school and club level – the diversity of experience is phenomenal. We would be deserving winners of the Ladies Gaelic Football competition.

Our pupil council enjoyed last Thursday's training event held for all pupil council’s in the Magherafelt Learning Partnership. It was also an opportunity for the Mid Ulster District Council to hear the views of young people in Magherafelt and for pupils to propose their own suggestions and ideas on what they want and need the council to do. Thanks to St Pius X College and the Youth Service for a great day. A really enjoyable, informative and beneficial day for all involved!
