Caoimhe our trainee animal nursing assistant pulled the short straw today and was delegated the task of sorting out the paper work 📚 While everyone else scarpered, John was more than happy to assist! Judging by caoimhe’s face, was he a help or a hindrance? 🤭🤣

just some interesting reading for our great clients 📖 Please be aware not all birds found are injured. Sometimes mum or dad can be very near by, continuing to feed the fledglings. However a lot of people feel these little birds are in danger, when in fact they aren’t. Please follow the guidelines below and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us.

🐶💥 INFORMATIVE POST 💥🐶
Yesterday we received a beautiful card and gifts from a client! (the chocolate treats were enjoyed by us all 🙊). She has allowed us to share her beloved pets story which was a scary ordeal for her!🐾
Princess the chihuahua came into the clinic to see our vet Femke. She had also been unwell and her owner was worried about her. She had been gaining weight but had not been eating, which was a concerning sign for her owner.
... As you can imagine, Princess’s owner was extremely worried. Our vet Femke got to work and with a pyo confirmed by ultrasound, she prepped her for surgery! A pyo was not something her owner had even thought or was aware of! We have attached a photograph to show just how big the pyo was (remember little Princess is a only a little Chihuahua)!
*What is a PYO?* PYO = PUS PYOMETRA = PUS IN UTERUS
Pyo is short for Pyometra. It’s caused by the Uterus filling with pus and, if left untreated, it can lead to kidney failure, toxaemia, dehydration and, in some cases, death! It may not always have obvious signs and symptoms, but we have listed a few below to be aware of;
- Dehydration - Not eating - Very thirsty - Vaginal discharge - Generally unwell (with or without vomiting)
Princess has made a great recovery post operation and her owner is so glad to have her special girl back home safe and well! 💕
If your dog isn’t spayed we recommend that it is something you consider. Having your dog spayed will ensure Pyometra does not occur as well as reducing the chances of developing certain types of cancer & unwanted pregnancies. Contact the clinic to discuss getting your pooch spayed!🐶🐾
