The Year 11 Double Award Science class had a very enjoyable trip to a careers fair hosted by the Southern Health and Social Care Trust in Newry Leisure Centre yesterday. It gave the girls hands on experiences into all the jobs on offer within the trust and provided a great insight into specific careers such as different branches of nursing, dentistry, microbiology, biomedical engineering as well as accountancy, estates management and even how they could volunteer within the trust.

Miss School. Miss Out.
This new advertising campaign currently run by the Department of Education seeks to highlight the fact that school attendance is not just essential, it’s also beneficial and that in missing school, pupils are also missing out on a range of other positive life experiences.
It also highlights two other key points:... 1. Each year, 40,000 children in Northern Ireland have an attendance level of 90% or lower. 2. There is a misunderstanding amongst some parents that achieving a 90% attendance record is a good result. On the contrary, this level of attendance equates to 19 days absence / one month out of school.

Unfortunately due to the weather last night and this morning the Shamrocks pitches are not playable for this afternoon’s training session. Training will therefore be cancelled and it is hoped that they will reopen later in the week. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause to parents, pupils will be notified.
