Where do ya start with St Mathews, the answer is at the front door. Knowing that the club had a recent revamp to the upstairs lounge, and that there was a carvery on a Sunday, a slot was booked, and we nipped across the bridge at 3pm today (Sunday) to sample the surroundings and fare, one of the best decisions this week :) So popular is the carvery a booking is the only way you can be slotted in. The number is 02890 455260. The decor and finish of the new Jimmy George & Bobby Jennings Lounge is breath taking, it really is. We were greeted immediately on entering, and showed to our table by a welcoming smiling face of our young female server. She explained all that was on offer, and took us through our order in minutes. I had the honey glazed ham & a slice of lamb, with jaw dropping tasty mash, roasties, veg, and gravy to die for. Katie was with us (11 yr old with a great pallet for tasty food) and she was into one. "This is absolutely gorgeous" was her verdict, and she got that 100% right, it was amazing. Its hard to explain just how nice it is, to be sat in the lounge in St Mathews, eating extradorinaiy food, in such beautiful surrounding.....but the price was better again. I don't know how they manage to serve such generous amounts of delicious food, at such reasonable rates, but they do. Thank you St Mathews for the best lunch experience in a long time, needless to say, we will be back. Next time it will be a larger booking due to us waxing lyrical about our experience, the entire family want to go, and we will have to indulge ourselves again, all in the line of duty as we lead the way to your doors *cough* :) We couldn't recommend it highly enough, ya need to try it. I have been helping out with a few photos so have got a sneak preview of the new lounge - it is transformed and looking really gorgeous - looking forward to sitting down with a few shandies tonight. Well done to the construction team and all the staff.
